Forza, the udinese president has said they have agreed personal terms but not a transfer fee. So he must have given permission.

Did you watcht he italy game?

posted on 8/6/11

Italy controlled the match, but got caught out by irelands only shot in the 1st half..and a late counter attack..

What do italians think of how their football (international and club) is going at the moment..
The golden era of the 90s at club level seems a distant memory now..

when will the national team be back competing in semi final/finals at WC and Euros ??

The scandal f'd serie a good and proper.

posted on 8/6/11

it certainly did !

I dont think that can be blamed on the decline of italian fotoball. After the scandal they won the champions league (twice) and a world cup (during?).

And Marcelino to Sevilla of course.

Yes the top two teams are immense no doubt. The other teams are also very good hence their regular appearances in the latter stages of Europa League.

However the EPL is played at a much faster pace and imagine the Spanish players without the Winter break. I doubt they could play at such a good level throughout.
---

Well considering the Liga normally starts about two weeks later than the PL and that they have a 7-10 day Xmas break, maybe the rest of their season is more crammed. They don't play any equivalent of the meaningless Carling Cup (which they'd play with their B sides just as PL teams do), but the cup proper is played over 2 legs and the top sides are also involved in European competition until quite late in the season.

The pace in the PL is higher, but not as much as it seems. As a TV product, the PL enhances this notion by using much narrower camera angles and more close-ups. If you watch Spanish footy, you'll notice that the cameras generally cover a much larger area of the pitch, so the picture shows more players off the ball who aren't directly involved in the action and are merely keeping position. That enhances the impression of the game being slow.

At times though, when you watch some of the lower English clubs, it can look like the EHCL (English Headless Chicken League).

prevailing view in england is that their clubs don't do so well in the europa league because they dont take it seriously where as clubs from other countries (ie spain) do.#

Incorrect...clubs from the big countries approach the europa league in a v similar way..tending to concentrate on the competition if they get to the quarter final stage..

Klose's signed a 2-year deal with Lazio apparently.

Didn't quite get the rumours linking him to Valencia anyway. Valencia have already got Soldado, Aduriz and Jonas, the Brazilian they signed in the winter window. Why would they have wanted to add a 33-year-old who'd probably command pretty high wages and whose international performances have always outshone his club form anyway?
