Years ago I prayed for goalscorers from midfield/wing. Now we have 3 ish players who are proven 10+ season goal scorers which is good.

Edin

Yes but look what we have lost?

We have little energy in midfield and virtually no defensive cover from midfield. Not a good swap IMO

I think literally one or two signings change that though.

Its a shame that Vertonghen seems to genuinely believe he is Billy Big time. Really poor attitude, he just gives up so often

It's almost as if he doesn't realise he's the defender / last man that is meant to put his body on the line

Wasting his talent through a lack of application

posted on 9/5/15

I don't think he is very talented, absolute. His positioning has always been poor, plus he is so terrible at challenging in the air.

I am no big fan of Verts I think he believes he is beter than he actually is. I think he takes liberties with the ball allows himself to be closed down to easily and when in trouble gives hospital passes to our other defenders.

He dwells on the ball far to long in certain situations and could do with one almighty great big kick up the backside by a decent size 10 boot.

Thats without mentioning what can only be called a dreadful attitude. Get rid I say and buy somebody who wants to play for the team not for themselves

We haven't got the greatest squad but even so I can't help feeling that a manager with good coaching skills, tactically aware and innovative, and astute man management would get so much more return from these players.

The fact that Poch fails to do so worries me and listening to his interviews is about as exciting as watching paint dry. He may be good behind the scenes during the week for all I know but I cannot see how he would inspire the players to perform out of their skins week in week out.

Chronic is a slow learner. Told him 2 years ago the gap between us will get bigger and bigger and he didnt listen as per usual. Now you are 12 points behind with us having 2 games in hand. The gap could be potentially 20 points end of the season.

Chronic also told me Sigurdsson was special and class. Then laughed at me for saying Ramsey was better than Dembele.

grand,

I don’t get all this Poch needs time to get his own players in its garbage.

Did the guy at Sunderland have time to get his own players in? No but he has turned them around a fair bit.

Did Sherwood have time to get his own players in at Villa? Nope but he has done well.

MP is supposedly a football manager and the first thing he should be capable of doing is getting the best out of the players he has. In this he has failed miserably.

=======================

I absolutely agree with this. When Poch went along for the interview, did he admit to Levy that he couldn’t improve on what Sherwood achieved with the same group of players? If he did, then he wasn’t the right man for the job. And if he said he could do better – he has failed. No excuses.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard any fan, manager or player of any club say they don’t need new players to improve the squad. I appreciate Poch needs time to get certain players he wants but inevitably his job is to get the best out of what he has. And he simply hasn’t.

Persisting with the Mason / Bentaleb partnership is amateur. Playing Lamela nearly every game is amateur. Leaving Dembele on the bench when its abundantly clear we need a ball carrier and to keep possession – is amateur. And I’m not even going to make reference to players he let go.

As you will remember I was one of very few (I may have even been isolated) who wanted to keep Sherwood – but I didn’t slate Poch as much as I did AVB because it just caused unrest – but he has really been shown up this season – and it will be even more embarrassing for him if Southampton finish above us – even though Koeman inherited a far worse squad then Poch did with us.

We could have let one of the best upcoming young British coaches slip through our very fingers in favour of yet another Mr ForeignTastic! I’m pro-Levy but for that I blame him.

Let's see how sherwood does next season before we start hyperventilating about his supposed great ability as a manager. I think he's done a very good job at Villa so far but I have lost count the number of managers who have come in to a relegation threatened side and improved things. Gus poyet being a prime example at SUnderland and look where he is now? I still think sherwood has a streak in him where eventually the novelty will wear off and he will start alienating individuals causing friction within the camp. I see him as a paolo di canio lite sort of manager and one that will cause friction eventually. Infact im so confident of that I will bookmark this article and hopefully re visit in a year or so.

I don't think it will take that long Don. Sherwood could start a fight in a room on his own. Looking at Villa, it was surprising the previous manager couldn't get them to turn up. Sherwood has done that at least. As for Poch, I'm starting to wonder if it wasn't his interpreter at Southampton doing the real coaching but I would say give him more time.

if the person is English, whether a player or manager, then hes good

if the person isn't English, whether player or manager, then hes not as good

Chronic, Yeh I have noticed that about chicken definetly has a strong biased opinion when it comes to the person being english.

Short, Yeh sherwood will end up being enemy number 1 at villa very soon with his attitude and ego... Just watch this space

Don

I dont believe Sherwood is a great manager I dont even think he is a good manager but how is MP any better with his record this season?

At the end of the day Sherwood has taken his team to the FA Cup final beating pool on the way who contantly beat us. He has beaten us at our own ground with a squad of players that is nowhere near as good as ours. What does that say about us and our manager?

We could say the same about Kane as a striker - but we haven't. It’s strange how we have this knack of deferring the giving or receiving of credit, or negative judgments, depending on who the subject matter is.

That would be why I get mocked for fighting Ade’s corner I suppose…good old Ade, English through and through….

Is that the same “soon” time frame you gave for Lamela proving us all wrong with his world class performances?

Forgive me if I don’t buy into your predictions of the near future wont you?

I understand why people favour English players, but never understand why people favour English managers. I don't care what nationality the manager is, as any nationality can manage the national team. I would be happy if even a German led our national team to a trophy.

Kane has just reached a record number of goals and got Young player of the year aswell as having an outstanding breakthrough season. Tim sherwood has had 1 half of a good season in getting villa out of relegation. Big difference mate

nope, you have lost me. wtf are you talking about chronic?

we sing "hes one of our own" because he came through the spurs academy from a kid to now being in the first team.

what does that have to do with the nationality of the manager? was Sherwood one of our own?
