Pernell Whitaker should definitely be in that top 5
pernell whiteker, morales? Oscar shouldn't be close, lost all his biggest fights, I'm sure guys like Duran and jcc fought in the 90's aswell
Lennox Lewis perhaps, undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World in a much tougher era than today.
When I was writing this I was meaning more era I would class them as the era before Oscar and Trinidad both beating Whitaker in the 90s although Whitakers 7 years in the 90s was exceptional!
Lewis would be a shout I picked Holyfield as he's done it at 2 weights

hard to argue that list but you could maybe have a shout for Calzaghe...

Yeah he has to be up there really but I know he doesn't often get the recognition I think he deserves on this board (or at all really).
Maybe it's just because he came on the back of such a good time in that division, he just dominated it though for a decade and fought all the main guys to be fair at that weight. He remained undefeated for 46 fights which I think is only bettered by Mayweather and Marciano. Pretty good going really....
I was going to mention Calzaghe as a contender but he doesn't seem too popular on this board for whatever reason.
You're massively over rating Calzaghe there, he fought the top men right at the end of his reign in Lacy and Kessler before which was a steady stream of WBO no hopers, an unbeaten record isn't the be all and end all either. To suggest he dominated the division is wide of the mark especially when he failed to fight Ottke, Johnson or Beyer.
Ghost I'm with you there. I don't judge fighters purely on their record, unbeaten is all well and good but it depends on who you fought and when you fought them.
Calzaghe was a really good fighter though and definitely one of my favourites from the 90's and early 00's.

I'm a Calzaghe fan, but he doesn't have the big names in their primes on his CV.
Vik's top 5 is pretty much spot on imo.
If Jones career hadn't tapered off, combined with his probably PED use, I would have him as number one.
Roy Jones Jr, achieved it all but just didn't know when to quit....
Klitscho is the P4P best since Roy Jones was at his peak, he has ducked no-one and fought everyone from his era when they were at their peak.
Adapted his style to be head and shoulders better than anyone in the division.

Lacy was wrecked by Calzaghe when he was touted as the next big thing and Kessler was in his prime when sorted by him,Eubank another good win if not superb and Hopkins though late on was still dangerous as he was proving 5 years later with some here tipping him to beat Kovalev as recent as a few months ago.
Naturally i bow to those here that followed the other named fighters but agree top 10 for Calzaghe.
Klitschko has not beaten a decent fighter for years though,not his fault just none about for probably the last 10 years apart from his brother post Lewis.

Say what you want but speed kills and Hopkins at that age cannot dominate a fellow world class boxer with speed to give away, the Hopkins who beat winky, beats Joe. Lacy went into that fight favourite with all bookies and was tipped up by plenty of pros too. Like i said people on here gave a near 50y/o hopkins a chance against kovalev yet 7 years earlier he's past it! Nobody put Jones up as a good win as he was spent and comparing 'prime this and prime that' counts for nothing. 46 and 0 takes some doing even if plenty,particularly during the warren years were 'bum o'the month' types. Nigel Benn who never shied from anyone reckoned Calzaghe would have been better than all the Brits/Collins in their prime,a must for top 10.
