Out-thought today

posted on 16/5/15

We shouldn't blame Sherwood at all - hate when Villa lose, especially when we get hammered, but Sherwood's attacking approach has reinvigorated us and I'd rather we attacked than played safe like we did under Lambert. Our goal difference is once again horrendous, but at least we're safe.

Some of the players we have who are performing as they are baffles me - is Okore really the same defender that Chelsea wanted? Bet they're chuffed they got Zouma instead. Vlaar's heroics for Holland do not get shown at club level. Can Sherwood not get Sanchez performing like he did for Colombia at the World Cup - surely he'd be a better defensive midfield option than Westwood. N'Zogbia has had four years to produce his Wigan form and that period of his career looks like being a complete one off.

Sherwood's tactics may be to blame today, but the guy has done a sterling job here and deserves respect not criticism. Regardless of whether we win the FA Cup, he has saved our season and if we do get bought by rich owners I hope they keep faith in him as with some money he could make us a strong side again.

Think everybody shares the blame to some extent for today; Hutton at left back wasn't a great idea. But to some extent Sherwood is still experimenting with players, to find how far he can use them. Getting in Sherwood was the best thing the club have done for a long, long time. He's saved our bacon, and the future looks good.

Okore hasn't really been consistent since his injury; maybe he will come good, but we need somebody better in the middle.

In retrospect I reckon Vlaar's performance against Holland was because he was in a very good team. He used to be a stabilising influence for us, but he's starting to look shaky, and I think Clark is now a better bet when he's fit. I'd like Senderos given a go in the final match; he looked solid before his injury and could still be a useful player for us. Maybe Vlaar should go.

Samchez? Better than Westwood as a defensive midfielder, but Westwood has a better all round game. Think they're both useful players for us, but maybe there's somebody even better out there for us.

N'zogbia's done a lot better since Sherwood's arrived. Think he's only now getting back to peak fitness since his long lay-off. Don't know if he's done enough for Sherwood to keep him. As Sherwood keeps on playing him he probably has.

We had several players on today's bench who must be wondering about their futures. My gut feeling is to keep them all, except not sure Weimann has a future here, pity as I think there's a cracking player in there somewhere. Guzan, Senderos, Sinclair, Gabby, Lowton and Sanchez are all good enough, Guzan, Gabby and Sinclair in particular.

Anyway, in spite of today Tim's the real deal. Let's go and win the cup.

A very good post.

I think if any Villa fan criticises Sherwood after this result, they need to have a look at themselves. He achieved the objective given to him, in keeping us up. The added 'little' bonus, is that in just over two weeks, we have this thing called an FA CUP FINAL to look forward to.
Maulings happen. They especially happen to us, from time to time. Sherwood has performed a miracle with this squad and has motivated players to perform who otherwise would not (and did not) under Lambert.

How refreshing is it to listen to Sherwood after matches and be able to understand him? It is nice to have a manager that seems excited and has a personality. Under Lambert, we heard mono-syllabic grunts, excuses and footballing cliches.

Sherwood is our saviour! All hail the Lord!

A GENIUS in the fact he took over a team that had scored 11 goals in 24 odd games, was heading no question to the championship under Lambert, got benteke scoring pretty much every game, took the club to the Fa cup final, gave Grealish his chance on the big stage ... NOW I WOULD SAY that's pretty impressive in such a short period !! Like i said all the Sherwood haters, where are you now ??!!!

People need to look the situation he took on when he came in .. We couldn't score, had zero confidence. People say Pearson should be manager of the year but they also forget that Leicester have played good football all season under him and in some ways results were probably coming. Who know what the future holds for the club under Sherwood but i know for one the football we have played under him so far has been thoroughly enjoyable and there is now a positivity running through the club which we haven't seen for a good few years ..

Yes, yes, but genius?

Bubble burst potentially???
Unsure as to whether Tim is tactically good enough at this level, no doubt a great man manager, but that may be it

Let's be honest. Anyone, potentially even Alan Irvine would've been an improvement on lambert
