European countries are so used to getting their own way when they pillage the third world countries through bogus trade deals signed using arm twisting and other ways that they can't believe that a global body can actually act in the interests of the world as a whole. I mean how dare they? We are Europe and we are powerfull.
Europe or SA aren't opposed to growing the game globally.. and someone who's not Blatter would still do that with all the money FIFA makes. different people with more football knowledge and ideas can improve the game more that's the reason for the opposition, oh and the blatant corruption and clinging on to power. FIFA are so far behind.. Blatter was about the only opponent to goal line tech for example 10 years ago, but now he takes credit for it Get more football people involved in running football.

so you would prefer it if FIFA did not make a profit on the various events and enterprises?
and you know for sure that they have zero plans on how to spend the money?
well, you know more than me.
and again, Blatter has been a very progressive FIFA president who has overseen the expansion of the World Cup in terms of number of participants and the people who can have the experience of going to the games.
a president who has overseen the huge growth of the womens game that has now its own, very high quality world cup and other tournaments
a president who has been able to make a profit out of FIFA where previous ones have failed.
17 wasted years indeed

What are you on about? Of course I want FIFA to make money, just not keep it! They should exist for the benefit of football, invest in football. Wherever that may be.
Put it this way, whatever your favourite charity is - would you want to find out they have over a billion in the bank account?
He has expanded the world cup. Awesome. 17 years well spent then.
He's also been great for women's football, I'll give you that:
Blatter: "Let the women play in more feminine clothes like they do in volleyball, they could, for example, have tighter shorts."
Inspirational. There's not many people Berlusconi can aspire to, Blatter may be one.

"That's how it works. Look at Africa...can give so much aid and charity to governments but if they are so corrupt it never filters down to the people that need it."
And who told you Africa needs your "aid?" A major reason why the continent is so poor is the aforementioned deals you make the goverments sign that ensure the continent cannot get a fair price for their produce on the world market. You then try and pretend you are committed to ending poverty in Africa by providing aid when we all know where the problem lies.
"Europe or SA aren't opposed to growing the game globally"
It isn't anywhere near the top of their priority list either is it?

Wumpatrol - Maybe but it doesn't help to have ridiculous corrupt governments.
And I don't think anybody ids committed to ending poverty there and that's the problem. A sad fact !
as much as I love him, I would not like Diego Maradona (for example) to be president of FIFA

Don't lie, you'd love it just for the drama.
I agree with your poat above, though.
What does Figo know about running a governing body like FIFA?

What a poor state of affairs we're in to have Blatter likely to be at the helm for another term.
We need a change at the top. He's been in that position of power for 17 years. That's not healthy in any business, let alone when you're no spring chicken anymore and doing a poor job.
The handling of the Garcia report under him has been a travesty, as has the Qatar World Cup scheduling. The feeling of corruption at FIFA has only grown and grown in the last decade, while his own public image has wained further and further. And yet he's in the almost inevitable position of continuing his governance unopposed with none of that counting against him.
Interesting how the blatter enthusiasts here are not taking into account WHY figo pulled out.
Seems to be a certain coolness to making out the uk are media fed idiots, yet don't give Figo's words a second thought.

i genuinely support Blatter.
he has been on the whole a very positive FIFA pres and in the absence of a credible alternative, he is the correct person to continue to lead our beautiful game
and as italian, i feel aggrieved at some of the things he has done and said about Italy, but in his role you are gonna hurt peoples feelings.
goes with the job.
just ask Godell.

Or Burlusconi
Seriously...I never understood how blatter got so powerful...feckin little weasel. ..incredible really, I mean how does he do it
All Hail Blatter. Long may he reign!
Amazing people care about the plight of workers in Qatar but they never mention the construction companies. The vast majority are western with a British firm from Wolverhampton being one of the largest.
Workers die as a result of poor HSE on work sites. So the question is this, do people die in this firms operations in the UK? Of course not.
These sanctimonious people do not give 2 shts about the workers. You do not have to go to Qatar though. Russia also has issues with gay people and racism and they also destroyed all evidence of their bidding for the world cup bit somehow this does not get the same coverage.
I wonder why
Mudd
maybe Sepp was right when he mentioned anti semitism?
There is an element of racism in it, a lot of people do not even know they are doing it when they do
Luis Figo has now dropped out of the 'election' to become the next president of FIFA....
