That's it, I can't be bothered to write any more so your input would be nice.

Palace.........
Bottom 3 at Christmas, safe before the end of March.
Our highest Prem finish.
Our highest Prem pts.
(As good as debt free and 6th place in the league since Jan)
Here's hoping we finally get a decent start to a season (after two poor ones) and can push to achieve 10th again
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Palace and Pardew definitely deserve credit. Always had a soft spot for the club with my late granddad being a huge fan

How so? We had too many injuries in the first half of the season that cost us. 6-7 first teamers were injured at one time. That cost us. After that we were better from game to game and had some awesome games this season. When players got injuries it takes time to find the right balance and to get back as a team to perform on a high level.
I am not saying that all is good. We have to overcome and work hard on some flaws in our game for example how to play against a stable and organise team but all in all were have progressed.
-----------------------
But injuries are something we have to contend with every season! We have to learn to deal with it in order to challenge for the title. I'm sure everyone will agree that a fully-fit Arsenal team could easily challenge for the title easily. But we don't because the manager either fails to buy the necessary players to strengthen those vulnerable positions, or is unable to adjust tactics when key players are out missing. As good as the 2nd half of the season has been, I'm not going to ignore the 1st half because history suggests it will happen again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you serious? You can't go out and react and buy players if you have a mysterious injury crisis at the club.
Injuries means you cant play on the same level and perform as if you have all your players available.
Of course I am not denying that Wenger made big mistake in the transfer window and not buying a proper DM and a CB. That cost us in same home games (for example Hull at home).
Now that we have a choice and in midfield a good choice of players we looked like a challenging team for trophies.

Wasn't suggesting reactively buying players to cover injury crises, quite the opposite in fact... Had we gone into the season with enough senior defenders we would not have dropped as many points against weaker teams when predictably our first choice defenders got injured. And DM is another one of those potential vulnerable positions if Wenger doesn't go out and strengthen this summer. I hope we get another left-sided player too as Sanchez is currently playing far too much without rest. These are all areas where we could make progress in the squad which is what we need if we're to last a full season in the league.
Of course it's flawed but so is simply comparing league positions. You're comparing a season points tally from almost 20 years ago to one now which obviously IS meaningless.
________________
Precisely my point. But then where do you draw the line? Does it become meaningless after one year, 10 years or 20 years?
I'm not saying the info is uninteresting, just that you can't draw any ready conclusions from it.
E.g. two years before we won the league with 75 points, we actually came second with 88 points! What can we learn from this? Not a lot really...
Progress? You are no closer to winning the title than you were ten years ago....
You gooners r feckin clueless!
Why' s this on the City board?
I guess it will be next season then when Wenger shows everybody what he can do with money to spend.

ffs. We did not lose those early games because of having 2 senior centre backs. We lost because we had injuries accross our entire team and therefore were worse in defense midfield and attack. Have you forgottern? Sanchez completely carried us because not a single other person was scoring. That was far more important than not having an extra centre back

Course it was. Most of our dropped points at the start of the season were down to injury disrupting the Mertesacker-Koscielny partnership, and Arteta being absent. Resulting in the awful Flamini starting a bunch of games and the inexperienced Chambers playing in the heart of defence (Monreal didn't do too badly I thought). All of which was entirely predictable and could have been avoided had Wenger bought a CB and DM in the summer, the latter of which has been needed for several season now. Thankfully he corrected it halfway through the season with the purchase of Gabriel and recall of Coquelin. But we still need another DM.
I agree with you on the DM position.
I still think that should be our first priority this summer. I dont expect Coquelin to stay injury free or drop form at one point. It's normal. I dont trust Arteta to do the same job as him. He is not a proper DM.
Chambers and Monreal did well at CB at the start of the season, when Debuchy and Kos were out for months it become difficult. couldn't believe we didn't buy another CB back then but it's still unlucky to have 4/5 defensive injuries and 10 players out at the same time. Having another back up CB won't really save our season in that situation, Gabriel's barely been needed because we've had a near fit squad.
I see its the usual
You could have written that script 10 years ago but don't worry it will be OK after a busy summer of Arsene telling all that there is no value in the market
Arsenal will have the worlds best defence until Mertesacker gets out jumped by Messi in the CL exit and Kos goes through someone and gets sent off in a key game
But then again it will be the ref, injuries etc.
