Our two most creative players (ADM n Mata) have had strange seasons yet have both made most chances and most goals for the team this season.
ADM clearly is a very talented player and the first 6 -7 weeks he looked every bit the £60m player. Since then he's had difficulties both on pitch and off it.
Mata was in and out of team for a large part of the season and even now he's not playing in his best role.
People go on about how Fellaini has done great but with him at number 10, we're never going to be a free flowing and scoring team. Never ever. He's good at what he does but I don't want to see my team play that way forever. This year was acceptable because it was all about getting top 4, which we just about managed.
He's not good enough though and neither is Ashley Young. We won't catch chelsea with those two as first team regulars.
We won't catch Chelsea with di Maria as a first team regular either. The guy is shocking. Not saying it has to be Young (though he's still got better stats than Willian of the champions) but we need a consistent winger who can follow Lvgs orders.
Robb
He clearly isn't a shocking player though is he? Everyone has seen what he's done in past and what he did in first 2 months with us.
He's had a very poor season no doubt. A tough start to life in a new country and league. I'm not totally writing him off yet though. Wouldn't shock me if he's a totally different player next season.
With all his issues he's still created twice as many chances and goals as Young has. I think that alone he deserves one more season to prove his worth.
leaves me wondering though, is it LVG's orders that are the issue? The West Brom game, repeatedly coming to the final 3rd and then a wayward cross. It was like watching a compressed Ground Hog Day movie repeat again and again
Our front 4 next season needs to be:
----------------------------Rooney (staying up top)
---------Di Maria----------Mata-------------Depay
I feel something seems wrong with our coaching. They cant ve playing blinders in training and then producing amazingly shockingly depressing displays with such regularity. I actually didnt mind us losing on Sunday but Hull were so abysmal but were the better team. So, if we accept rival fans assertions, we lost Brucey's free points.
i think a lot of our lack of creativity is really down to lack of movement/mobility of our strikers.
LVGs philosophy is built around retaining possession and control... if no-ones making runs, we're trying to keep the ball rather than giving it away
with a bit more pace and movement up front we'll be fine
Top drawer goal that. Sign him up Brendan
But genuine, that was unbelieeeevable Tekkers!!
Say I accept that and we all saw it constantly, is it that a) coaching staff didnt see it b) the strikers ignored them and continued to earn millions c) the strikers simply did not have the ability to do what they were asked despite their best efforts.. I never thought 90 mins could be as painful as they have been since 2013.
It was Shinji. Hope it can get a look-in at the Ballon goal awards... like Roche's. But unlikely
LvG's game plan is based too much on possession and waiting for a mistake.
Quite boring imo but effective.
Hope LvG does well though.
The types of players who will succeed in this current style of Lvgball are players like Lewandowski, eriksen and Silva. We need creators and finishers like them. Good luck finding available ones!
I do remember a time under Fergue when we played possession football. Lower teams knew they would not get the ball and just prepared to lose less badly or maybe even park the bus. Now we have possession but teams dont mind that and are sure we wont score. I was surprised that we had 24 or 26 shots against WBA. maybe only 2 or 3 of those seemed serious goal bound efforts that were saved, plus the pen of course. I am not being racist here but Otamendi coming doesnt excite me. Bar Heinze, who was a great servant for us, all other Argentines have been depressing for United. Rojo has just been tolerable due to how bad we have been but he is not a replacement for Evra, Vidic, Rio heck sometimes I think Fabio was better. I know Aguero and Messi are Argentines but they havent played for us, you wait and see if they try!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
the current style isn't likely to be how we play next season though... the Depay signing should indicate that.
He's not a left winger a la Young who's going to hug the line... he starts wide and attacks the middle.
I see us playing a slightly flatter midfield 3, more attacking width from the full backs.... and hopefully a lot more movement up front
New Striker
New winger - Mata - Depay
Would be ideal. ADM maybe kept if we cant get £50+ mil for him and prove his worth.
I think vG is all about possession. I think we'll definitely be keeping the same style. Depay will slot in for Young or Mate when vG sees fit I'd imagine.
He might be playing him up top also instead of Falcao/RvP?

Correct. It will be a 4-3-3 with shaw and a new RB providing more width.
I hope Chicharito comes back into the fold with Rooney and Wilson and we concentrate on really strengthening defence and CM. Perhaps next summer splashing the cash on a world class CF. He is a great squad striker and super sub

Said many a time Rooney is a massive problem for United. He must be droppable if he doesn't perform even if he is our captain. LVG has to do this.
Rooney needs to improve big time next season and to play up front or not at all. Bring a top striker in and either Rooney throws his toys out or he knuckles down and we see the best of him again. At times he just looks disinterested or going through the motions so to speak.
"all other Argentines have been depressing for United".

Tevez wasn't too shabby during his time with you, you
could do with exactly that type of player at the moment.
Argentinians on the whole are the South Americans that take to our league the best, they are fighters.
Heinze wasn't that bad (before he said let me sign for the dips)
Tevez was great first season and very poor second.
Rojo hasn't been that bad really. He's just an average player for me though. Nothing special.
Veron was a top player who was just totally wrong for this club and league.

i love goals where the skill involved is good but not outrageously good, but it is something 99 players out of 100 wouldn't even think to try.
