Don,

Well the signing of Wimmer, plus hopefully Trippier & one more should give us cause to be optimistic.

Don,

Genius, hoping all these bids and interest in all these defenders are real.

===================

Its difficult for me to get excited about any bids for players that i have no idea who they are - i think we've been here before.

Newer player does not always mean better.

Wasn't Chiriches originally praised up on here before a ball was kicked simply because he was captain of Romania?

This meant he must be good, apparently...

Yes you are quite right Chicken & there is no knowing how anyone will turn out. However we are unlikely to be first in the queue for the very best CB's are we? So hopefully we can unearth another player under the radar like we did with Modric etc.

If this gets sorted with quality then im happy.

Of course, but us simply bidding for defenders does not give me too much joy on its own.

I'd rather know what the scouts know - or know through my own eyes what these are like - i just dont like signing players simply because they are a young captain of their country etc.

I'd rather go get someone like Shawcross than gamble on the Chiriches' and Fazio's of this world.

Well here's hoping these bids we are making are on the recommendation from Mitchel who has one of the best reputations in the country for scouting

So was Arnesen when we bought Bentley and Bent, and Baldini when we bought Lamela, Soldado and Chiriches.

Please forgive me for not having faith in these so called experts.

We also bought some good players under these people ( Baldini maybe not as much) but we drafted in players and unknowns like Modric etc so not all of them are c rap mate. I'm with you I want quality and not quantity but least it looks like we are sorting out this defence

Don. Modric was not unknown. He was already playing for Croatia regulary and had been talked up by several coaches as being something special.

Do you really think levy would have paid 16m for a total unknown quantity? Especially back then ... Wasn't it out transfer record?

Modric was already an established player when we signed him

What we saw at Spurs was his transition from very good to world class

Modric was a great signing but he was far from being an unknown.

And i know all managers and DoF have their good and bad signings, but i was just saying that just because a DoF or head scout has a good reputation that doesn't mean all players they recommend will be better than we already have - as has been proven.

As such, as i said before, i cannot get excited about being linked to players i have no recollection of - regardless of whether they have captained Poland, Romania, or whatever nation it may be.

Hopefully he's got more experience than his age suggests.
