Hello RR.
Re Charlie, he didn't hang about at Swindon when interest was shown. He was determined to get what he could, and jumped ship in January, having largely engineered his own move. This, despite the fact that he is genuinely a Swindon fan...
Of course, QPR pack a bigger punch in the pecking order, but I fancy he'll be off when a decent offer comes in. He's a terrific player, and when you look at the value attached to the likes of Balotelli, Falcao, Carroll etc, I'd take Austin any day.
With the double signing you've just made, you're in danger of becoming Swindon reunited...! If only we could hang onto these players long enough to get out of bloody League 1!
Best of luck for a good closed season.
As i'm typing Chelsea are making noises about Austin. Him making the short trip to the Bridge would be a wrong move in my opinion. We've just signed two of yours, would i be right thinking Luongo is in the Tim Cahil mould ? I don't know anything about Gladwin, whats is position ?
Yes, I see there are fairly short odds on Chelsea as a destination....personally, I think he'd be better served going to Southampton. Upwardly mobile club, and I think he'd fit in nicely. We'll see.
Luongo - is compared to Cahill, because they both came to prominence in the 3rd tier and they're both Australian. Some similarities, and Luongo can do the same job - he's able to do all the central roles: box-to-box, deep lying or advanced. A very handy player, and I fancy you'll have bought him with a view to putting him straight in the first team.
Gladwin - bit of a curate's egg this one. Still quite new to the professional game (18 months), and he's played in a variety of positions: wing back, central midfield, and advanced midfield. A precocious talent rarely seen in League 1, with good technique and plenty of flair. Probably best as an advanced midfielder. Has a tendency to neglect defensive duties, and still a bit inconsistent. Huge progress in the last 6 months though, so will be interesting to see how he does. I fancy he might start life with you on the fringes, maybe coming off the bench as a surprise package when you need a spark.
Cheers for the "heads up" George. Is your gaff still called the County ground, it's been many a long year since i was there.
It is, and you probably don't want any reason to go back there! We haven't been part of the sweep of new stadia in the past couple of decades, and don't have the funds to improve it (not that we even own it - the council does!).
I haven't been for some time myself. I live in London, so it's easier to get to away games.
Perhaps I should pop to Loftus Road to see how the alumni get on...!
I ardly think the word alumni is appropriate, Londons poor relations more like. A few of our supporters think we're a big club but the truth is Palace and Fulham get bigger gates.
