I presume that they have been advised by lawyers but why can't any of them actually face a camera themselves and apologize. I don't mean head down, reading from a script but actually look into the camera and say what I hope they feel.

Stretty - Only one of them was overtly racist, but all of them were to an extent.

The answer to the question in the article is: They weren't thinking, at least not anything rational.
By nature of what they did, they assumed that they were better than the girls in the video. Quite aside from the racism, this is misogyny. Somewhere along the line they've become convinced that this way of thinking is reasonable or acceptable. It isn't, and to do it while indirectly representing the club is brainless.

What they've done, the way they think about these Thai women and then to send videos of this back home to somehow impress friends is a direct insult to our owners. I find myself getting angrier and angrier about this by the day.

I see the Bangkok post are still selling shirts online:

For just 3,197 baht, anyone can buy this shirt-shorts combination, an outfit just like the ones worn by Tom Hopper, James Pearson and Adam Smith. The shirts come with "Amazing Thailand" emblazoned on the back.

There is, as has been pointed out, only one overtly xenophobic remark (of a Prince Philip variety), but there is other derogatory dialogue that lends a racist subtext to the whole episode – that business of taking pleasure in insulting foreign people in front of their faces when you know they can't understand what you're saying to/about them.

So while I don't disagree with the use of the word 'misogyny' here (it's far more appropriate in this context than 90% of the times I read it in the Guardian), I think it's more or less pointless trying to pick apart the contempt they show these girls because they think that they are 'slappers' from the contempt based on regarding them as something akin to 'coolie labour'. In the end, it's all one blurred smear of sneer.

This trio have gotten it into their heads that as well-paid young Englishmen they are a superior kind of person. But they are not. They have confused the concepts of superiority and privilege.
