I’d have Yojimbo and Sanjuro in over High and Low

Just watched first episode of 3 Body Problem on Netflix. Very good start, looks like it’s going to stand up well as a show in its own right, whether you’ve read the book or not.

Definitely recommend giving it a go, and it has the added bonus of every episode being available straight away.

Somebody else watch this FFS rather than talking about hipster 1930’s films that no real person has heard of

Just chucking a few in that may not have been mentioned, not necessarily known for being the best but one’s I watched and enjoyed at the time…..

Flatliners
Dumb & Dumber (found it hilarious at the time, probably not so if I watched it now)
Outbreak
Heat
Lord of the Flies
Cruel Intentions (just because it’s Sarah Michelle Geller😍)
Backdraft
Enemy of the State
Boyz in the Hood
The Fugitive
A Few Good Men
Dead Man Walking
American Pie
Happy Gilmore
In the Line of Fire (Clint!)
Ring
It
Blair Witch (Marmite, overrated?)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still loads out there for sure, honestly feel could easily do top 5 per genre for each decade

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I sense something… something all too familiar… oh yeh, that’s what I said!!!
RtM knows what he’s doing, it’s causing mans to feel guilty aboot omitting great films.
Damn you RtM..

Good to see more people recognising the greatness of that show.

I've just finished watching the new episode and it's stl a 9/10+.

posted on 22/3/24

it needs to be there on merit, but I'd like to include a film from 60s London.
I'm currently looking at:
The Ipcress File
Repulsion
Blow-Up

Are these the best candidates? Just watching Ipcress File for the first time and it seems decent. I don't really thik Repulsion's quite good enough, and although Blow-Up is great for showcasing the swinging 60s, I'm not sure it's good enough either (although I'll recheck it).

not live, but have viewed several reviews on youtube. I think Kermode's very informative.

I think they're pretty good, as you say Kermode is pretty informative and has decent taste. Mayo is a good interviewer and they bounce off each other pretty well.

I used to listen to their radio show a lot and just realised they moved it over to podcast so catching up on it now.
