Honestly if I went to the multiplex and my friends wanted to watch Die Hard 3 over The Exorcist, I would make a mental note to get better friends.

Sorry but The Exorcist is a considerably better movie than Die Hard 3 ffs

Well from a certain point of view. But I read the room, and nobody was in the mood for The Exorcist.
Choosing the right film, like choosing the right wine to have.
I’m a connoisseur.
My mate just wanted to out film buff me by showing how cultured he was than me.
Tell you something, his head was spinning with the ribbing he got that night.

To be honest mate, if The Exorcist is fine wine then Die Hard 3 is a room temperature cartoon of Ribena.

Die Hard 3 is great.

It's a decentish second sequel - a fun chasing the clues premise let down by a poor third act - to a much superior original movie.

The Exorcist is one of the essential movies of 20th century cinema.

I don't

It's like choosing Macky D's over a Michelin star restaurant. Nope. No night for that. Only live once. Not wasting it on Big Macs thanks.

of course I’m not saying DH3 is the better film than Exorcist.
On that night, If Naked Gun 2 was out at the same time, I would’ve chosen that instead. That was the vibe,

I am trying to imagine this.

The Exorcist was BANNED from home video and TV until about 2001.

If you didn't catch it on the cinema re-release that owuld happen every 3-4 years, then you'd never be able to see it legally.

So in 1995 - your chumps, I mean friends, had a rare chance to see a quintessential masterpiece on the big screen or the second sequel to a generic Hollywood action franchise - and you lobbied for the latter?

And we went to see the Exorcist. I was the only one that chose DH3. The rest of the group after the film gave my mate grief. I didn’t.
But I had to put up with my girl falling asleep halfway through. My mate was just trying to get one over on me. It backfired.

Yeah, sorry - you need better friends, or at least don't go to the cinema with them

It was the West End, There was no plan. All on the fly.
We’re in Trocadero. Bumper Cars, Arcade.
Then the choice of, Slow classic horror film in a small cinema, or adrenaline pumping ride with John McClane on the biggest screen at the Odeon.

Exorcist isn't that slow.
Also, Die Hard 3 is semi-pumping at best.

I don’t think it’s slow at all.

I’m not saying it’s slow slow, it’s just for the vibe we were on, the pace of DH3 was what was required.

Listen, the bloody next week they went to drag me along to Spike Lee’s ‘Higher Learning’, and I said, nah, I’m going to see DH3.
Again my best mates choice, they had a good time with that.
Years later I saw Higher Learning, man what a piece of crap that was. Dodged a bullet with that one.
So I do question their tastes.
