Times have changed and safety measures are now excellent. It's tried and tested everywhere else. I think it's time for a return.

I think the atmosphere (singing/chanting etc) will be better with standing sections because it garners more of a togetherness amongst fans.
However I also worry that this same thing may encourage/facillitate more violence because of the mob mentality.

With the current all seater stadiums the crowds can be much easier controlled and monitored. Putting people on their feet makes this more difficult to do and the potential for something going wrong is much increased.

For what reason?

They are all going to be standing where their seats are, I don't really see the benefit of it. Standing sections meant you could fit more people in an area and therefore the noise etc would be more.

This is just the same amount of people being able to stand where they could be sat. Happens a lot already.

I can't see too much violence happening at premiership grounds now. In the 80's I paid £2.50 to get in the kop. No one knew my identity, address or anything like that.

if the standing section is to go ahead then everyone should be season ticket holders.

i am all for it. Premiership ground atmospheres are woeful nowadays.

I was in the Kop last season against Villa and a group of blokes were sat down and not singing. Some old scouse guy next to me shouted at them 'to go sit in the main stand if you are not going to sing, plenty of fans want your seats'.

It was harsh but I agree with it. My mate who has the tickets in the kop took 6 years of swapping season tickets with people who don't stand and sing to get closer to the heart of the atmopshere.

90% of away fans stand through games week in, week out and after thinking about it the rail seat system would make away areas in the PL safer places.

Capacity is not changed and you have a defined 'seat area' unlike old standing areas

The majority of the Kop & The Stretford end stand the whole game.

Do you think it will bring back peeing where you stand Get that steam rising on a cold day!!

We already spend 95% of the game on our feet at Celtic Park, it is not an open terrace like it used to be but far more controlled

my own opinion is that it is a good thing but I feel clubs will make their own mind up on it and rightly so, I have never fully enjoyed sitting, I used to think the seating areas were for the rich folk back when

At least you can get a beer at your matches

Safe standing is exactly that, safe.

The atmosphere and fan expirence would be greatly increased and I'm all for it!

Probably won't be a popular POV but I'd like to see it go further than that.

I don't see whats wrong with open terraces were the numbers are limited and controlled - quite easy with technology nowadays, and I know there are plenty of like minded people who would love it.

My reasons - although I still go because there is no other option, I simply don't enjoy the match day experience as I used to. It's lost a lot for me in the whole atmoshere of the game, for example I don't feel inclined to want to sing if I'm forced to sit down, and if I get over excited, having some steward coming over every few minutes telling to sit down really puts the dampner on it!

The KOP should be restored to its former glory. All standing together to cheer the team on.

The dangers are less now those dreadful cages have been removed and crowd numbers are easily regulated.

Let's face it standing areas were only removed in the first place because stadiums in general were poorly designed.

Having said all that having standing areas at Anfield does not mean a great atmosphere. The spirit of the club has been on the wane for a while now. The crowd involvement during the CL was lamentable.

The standing was not the issue, it was the crowd control that went with it in a stadium not fit for purpose.

It's so predictable

On topic, I worked as a steward at Torquay United the season before last, where two of the stands are still full standing terraces. While they aren't the exact same design as the rail seating, it's a similar idea. Plainmoor has a railing every two "steps" on the terrace to avoid the surge forwards that happened in the old terraces.

Bearing in mind the small size of the crowds, as a steward, the standing terraces where where you wanted to be, the banter, the excitement, the liveliness was all increased ten fold. Something about seating makes you feel like you're in a library I think.

But it was safe. In the season I worked there, I never saw an injury caused by standing, and there was limited crowd trouble, even though the "pop" stand and the away end where adjacent to each other.

I personally think standing is fine, the atmosphere, and therefore the match day experience for everyone involved is much better for it.
