What is your reasoning for posing the question?
There are many reasons why Vertonghen would leave, and I think we have all seen a lack of commitment in him since last year when he refused the offer of a new contract.
The problem he has is that he has not hit the heights that might generate interest in him; in fact there are those on here that reckon he is quite mediocre.
But the idea of Lloris and Kane assuming the captaincy and vice captaincy was announced the other day and it was suggested that it was to point out to the two players how important they are to the club.
Lloris and Kane as captain and vice was only reported in the paper hossip columns wasn't it? Not officially?
Either way, makes no difference, was Kaboul and Ade last season so Verts doesn't really enter the equation.
Kane vice captain? A young unproven striker. Kinda weird.
If this is true then I hope it's not with the intent to make the players stay. Arsenal tried that with Henry, Fabregas and Van Persie and it failed miserably. Saying that I can understand Lloris getting the captaincy but it would say a lot about our squad when a 22 year old completes his first full season in the first team and is named vice-captain.
A goalkeeper as a captain never works,you can hardly motivate players from the goal area.
It wouldn't bother me of he went to be honest. Never been a huge fan

He seems to think he is much better than he is. Hence no interest from bigger or richer clubs. He is simply not that good and his attitude seems to stink most of the time.
If he wants to go then let him go and use the money to bring in someone who seems to give a faack

maybe... but there was a clear worsening of body language from his first season onwards...
what isn't a myth though, is that he isn't very good... judgeing by his past two seasons anyway...
tbh he is no better than the rest of the CB's.. they are all as bad as each other... (excluding Dier and Wimmer, who we don't know about)
also.. I don't mind lacksadaisical style players.... I was a big berbatov fan...
but I am not sure centre back is the position we want lazy style players in...
I cannot think of a single top class centre back with that same style.... arguably Rio at some times, but no... he was much more on it and no nonsense when necessary than vertonghen is

you all know how it is.... when spurs have a good player, bigger clubs come sniffing.
lloris, kane, even rose and bentaleb, all rumoured to have clubs sniffing around them....
has there been one single rumour of a club even taking an interest in vertonghen since we signed him? I cannot remember any...
he just isn't much good.

well we defo need a tough guy, but I would play Dier next to the tough guy, not Verts
the reason vertonghen annoys me so much is that he has the ability to be a top centre back.. and he just isn't... much the same way huddlestone had the ability to be a top cm.. but just wasn't.
We need a leader in defence and one in midfield as well.
Vertonghen was probably at fault as much as most of our CB's last season, although you'd probably expect them more from Dier as he's inexperienced. Is Alderweireld a leader or an organiser of the defence? I'm not sure.
We badly need experience and leadership in the middle of the park. Can't have a midfield pairing that young, and for all of Mason's effort and industry, he's not actually that good.
Mason is a squad man... if we want to go anywhere we badly need to improve that position
