Petr's not dead, just sleeping.
Ah there are just so many, obvious choices but as a young man Pulp Fiction and Trainspotting exposed me to a lot of older music I’d not heard before and opened my horizons beyond the obvious indie, electro and mainstream.
I’m quite a fan of a good movie score too and Hans Zimmer does some brilliant epic soundtracks, I’ve got some pretty high end studio monitors that do really big but tight bass, loud without distortion makes the likes of inception sound on another level. Pirates of the Caribbean, which I believe was a collective effort has that ‘epicness’ to it too.
Let’s face it, The Jungle Book it pretty good, has the boogie factor!
Betty Blue is different, True Romance has a nice them too it but disappointed they didn’t include Chantilly Lace by the Big Bopper because that is a fecking tune.
Remember enjoying it but can’t really remember it but ‘Drive’ was good.

So intricacies of scores as opposed to character themes. Building momentum and expanding the boundaries of scenes.

And this is what Darren Aronofsky (and his collaborators) absolutely nailed with Requiem for a Dream. I actually think it is overrated (based on a book), don’t get me wrong it is a good film and one I loved the first couple of times I watched but it loses its magic where as some films don’t. That isn’t the same as not standing the test of time but it is because you realise the narrative is actually incredibly basic and the characters aren’t exactly deep (not read it though), the film is pure momentum and his direction paired with the soundtrack are a perfect marriage.
It is a film that completely sucked me in the first time, the darkness of their situation and momentum both in the editing and soundtrack meant it wasn’t till the film abruptly finishes you exhale a deep breath and almost exit a trace you don’t realise you’ve been in. It is like you’re back in the room and you become aware of how you’ve been sitting, I was leaning forward and holding on and I’ve not experienced that with many films. It is literally a form of hypnosis by definition.
I knew there was one film I had overlooked...

Didn't think Insomnia's soundtrack was anything special.
