Dembele is by far your best midfielder. He should definitely play.
Poch is stubborn..I do not hink he knows another way of playing apart from 4-2-3-1. Its a big shame. For our league and for europe we need an alternative formation. I do not think he has one.
He relies on personnel changing the game not his formation which is not the sign of a great coach.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until December by then we should start seeing his true football philosophy.
Dembele offers very little, I suspect it doesn't matter what formation he plays in.
The trouble with Dembele is I do not think anyone is really sure of what he is, in terms of style of midfield play.
Sure he holds the ball up pretty well, but what else does he do. Does he create attacks with decisive through balls after he has fought off all comers. Is he more defensive minded and holds the ball up until he can lay it off to someone who can actually do something with it.
He seems to have had a good spell at AZ scoring plenty of goals, a good game for Fulham against United, when all were drooling over his performance, and steady games in the Spurs shirt where he has shown he is not easily knocked off the ball.
But what else?

I agree but this just shows the lack of quality we have in the CM department. If bentaleb and Mason get injured i fear for the team. Thats why I have always called out for us to sign a quality CM but until then Dembele is arguably our 3rd best CM.

Well I think we need someone creative in there, a playmaker who can get the three in front into gear.
If we continue to play a single striker, then goals need to come from elsewhere in the midfield. Kane is now a marked man and his goals will not be as prolific next season as the last. I hope I am wrong but that is the way I see it. Kane flattered our season just finished and if he doesn't get the goals this coming season we could be in trouble.
Of course, the strengthening at the back could be an important factor next season, but I still feel we need some creative play to link defence to attack. Lamella has been pretty ineffective and Eriksen cannot do it alone.
I remember when we first signed dembele and I thought that we had signed our Modric replacement. A deep lying CM that could hold the ball and start off attacks.
At his peak that is what he offers and he can dominate the midfield from that area.
Since Poch signed he never really was given a chance to play in that role. Against Chelsea he played in that position and was a key performer but since then he barely played for us.
I never thought that, he can't pass for shït. Never once seen him dictate the tempo or even threaten to. I was underwhelmed when we signed him and nothing's changed in 3 years.
Read some mutterings from him the other day about him being unhappy about the amount of game time he got in the latter part of the season. I'm unhappy about his performances so he can jog on as far as I'm concerned.
said it loads of times before and i will say it again. dembele should play every single time we play a team that is better than us….. it was ridiculous by poch to leave him out the cup final… he had to play were we to have any chance at all…
if we sell him we are silly, he has a big role to play at spurs.

Agreed, We don't have such a depth of qualty CMs that we can afford to sell one of our better performers. I think Poch's stubborness has seen us get nothing out of Capoue and Stambouli.

Would you care to enlighten us as to that role.
Agree with Chronic here.
Chelsea has been mentioned previously, and he was superb. He's never going to run games for you against rubbish teams, but when you have to be defensively awake against a team such as Chelsea he comes in to his own. Hassles, presses as he should, isn't easy to outmuscle and has those gangly legs that are difficult to get the ball past, butt the ball sticks to him too in possession.
While his passing isn't great, against good sides that is a great weapon. If you are under the cosh a little you can be sure that if it falls to him he can hold of a challenge or two long enough for you to get your shape back defensively and allow your players to break if it's on.
When we played 433 with Dembele at the top it also tightened us up considerably. There is a time and a place for him there in my opinion, Id be interested to see Mason pushed on a little and Dembele alongside Bentaleb if playing the same way. I think their respective attributes would be a better fit.

Badly written!! The great weapon is his ability to hold the ball up, not his passing deficiencies!

If as expected we sign a dm, Dembele will still be a bit part player at Spurs unless he really improves.
A very good player to have in reserve though as he can play as one of the two cm or pushed further in the number 10 position.

So to sum up
Just the like the majority of us, you are not sure what he is supposed to do to enhance the team. Except possibly as others have said, to hold the ball up.

Really can't see how anyone can put Lamela in any 'best eleven' side.
The squad seriously lacks quality as far as I'm concerned, as such that several of them can be questioned as to why they're in our best 11.
