He's proven premiership quality who with the right service will score you 20 goals a season easily. A lot of Liverpool fans are moaning about him being not good enough but you might go spend the money on a striker from the continent who could take a year etc to settle .. I think the signing of Benteke is a no brainer.

One thing people forget is that talent does not account for the full price tag of a player. There are many factors that change this and impact the end value.

For clubs like Liverpool or Spurs, £32m is alot of money and probably not worth it for Benteke purely because it will take a considerable chunk off their transfer budget.

Thankfully Spurs have learned from the Bale money that big money moves don't guarantee success whereas Liverpool continue spending over the odds.

Saying that, £20-25m for Benteke would be alright considering he's 24 and has shown ability to score in the Premier League.

More Belgians!!

to be fair, Liverpool are a bit short of strikers.

think that's 8 they have now.

another one or two and they should be good.

3/4 goals each from them and they've got their 20+ goal a season striker. Fantastic bit of business to be fair.

Bill, you seem a little confused.

You mention the buy out clause in his contract in your OP, but then in one of your comments you ask "Are they paying £20m for Benteke and £12.5m to ensure that he does not go anywhere else, particularly Spurs." No, we'd be paying the buy out clause.

Benteke was scoring goals before Tim Sherwood arrived. 42 goals in 86 games for Villa. Tim has only been the manager for 16 of those 86 games There was a definite upturn in Benteke's form when Sherwood arrived, but you could say that for the whole team. New manager bounce

Liverpools American owners have demanded that games should have more goals like NFL games as its goals that make it entertainment (Stoke would agree I guess)? The aim is somewhere between NFL football and EPL Soccer or Foccer for short. All Pool players have to commit themselves to the Total Foccer philosophy.

You could be right FJM, I do tend to get a bit confused these days.

But I know exactly what I meant by my comments on the value of Benteke, and that is they are justifying the £32.5m by a calculation that he is worth £20m plus another £12.5m to ensure other rivals do not get him.

Even I could follow that in my dotage so I am sure some of you younger ones will get the drift.

Oh, and I am biased in my view of Benteke in that I would not want him. I am on record as saying that I want a striker from a team at the top, Aguero for example, someone who can score goals in any situation, not someone who can score goals because the team they represent are struggling and not seen as a major threat by their opposition. Sometimes, to the oppositions cost I might add!!!

Let's be honest liverpool have lost suarez, Gerrard and most definetly sterling. Probably 3 of the best players they have since Brendan took over. They have replaced them with Ings, frimino and possibly Benteke. No improvement whatsoever

Well that is an upgrade, at anfield against man utd 1st half they were being forced to play a 6-3-1 formation.

I'm not sure he's worth £32.5m, but his demand has certainly increased thanks to Tim.

Certain managers just have a good man management skills when it comes to certain players.

I think Tim needs to do more than just increase a player's value before getting too much credit.

He did keep them in the league though, so he's doing ok.

just about.. and he got embarrassed in the cup final.

he stayed up pretty much by default, although they had a good win at the lane.

he probably s about a 5/10 for his job at villa so far.

6/10 for his job at spurs.

with an extra 0.5% for bentaleb.

I agree it's not exactly like he stayed up by a large margin. He stabilised what was a joke of a situation under lambert. I'm not being funny but no one could do worse than lambert. He got benteke firing which is fine and I'll give him credit for that but he didn't do nothing spectacular at villa. Any manager could of kept that villa team up sorry.

There is something about Benteke that is all a bit meh, for some reason I struggle to get asked excited about him.

He is certainly not worth £32.5m, I would not want to pay more than £20m for him. There again some transfer fees are downright extortionate, much like Sterling who is not worth half of the mooted £40m.
