I'm not really fussed either way to be honest.

Coq is obviously there or thereabouts, yeah his performance level might drop a bit when he's playing 50+ games a season, but that's pretty much the norm.

More than happy with Arteta as backup. You can't have two top class players in every position, no club in the world does.

^Meant to post that on another thread.

The issue with Arteta is his injuries. He's said himself his shin/calf injury is with him till he retires. If he's fit and plays like he did before last season, then I'd be relatively happy.

N'Zonzi would have been a good option to come in at any club in that position!

Is it though? He's never relied on pace, being almost as slow as Mertesacker, and backup players tend to find it so much easier to stay injury free.

The Coq is good enough, hell even if the Coq was better than a prime Makelele we'd still need a signing. Why? Because Arteta is not good enough to be back up.

It's the same as last season's centre back debacle. Lose one player to a mid to long-term injury and our season is over.

Before someone tells me I am the loudest in saying the January transfer window is a difficult window to sign players, I forgot to add that signing backup players isn't as hard as signing top quality.

It is nothing like that.

He said it himself in an interview. Think it was a video though, not sure if I can find it.

I'm not comfortable at all with him as our back up tbh.

Where has this myth come from that your backup players need to be as good as your first choices?

Who do Chelsea replace Matic with if he gets injured?

Arteta has become massively underrated these days. We got more points with Arteta in there for a full season than we did with half a season of Arteta and half with Coq.

I think Arteta is an excellent option for backup/rotation. We need Coq for the big games but sometimes with him we've suffered against teams who sit deep because Coquelin can't distribute the ball or link up the defence and midfield half as good as Arteta can.

Arteta is possibly underrated as a deep-lying playmaker because he's actually very good in that position. Can't play DM in the way our side sets up though, might as well play Giroud there if you think he can.

Arteta has earned our loyalty. He was signed in our darkest hour when most of us felt we would fall apart and has captained us in one of the most difficult periods in recent history. When he is fit he is more than adequate as our backup. People keep forgetting how in previous seasons we have missed the guy when he was injured and how our performances always improved when he returned.

If I generous enough, I could tag him as a legend tbh.

Our season can be over by January, just like the previous one. We were the better team from January until the end but lost too many points at the start of the season.
I'm surprised Wenger didn't go for Cabaye. Relatively cheap and would have been the perfect replacement for Arteta.

I love Arteta, he's a real professional, and it's clear the players respect him. His reading of the game is very good.

No way in hell is he a legend though.

Agree but he's not that much better and we have more pressing areas to resolve first.

Striker should be our top priority at the moment.

Yeah, I was surprised at some of the reaction to us not paying 25m for Schneiderlin. Much rather that type of money went on a striker.

Cabaye will not go from being unhappy as second choice at PSG to being happy at being second choice at Arsenal.

It has been reported everywhere that Wenger has been calling Benzema but the striker doesnt want to leave Madrid.
My worry is that I think Wenger wants to go big (Benzema) but if he can't get his man, he won't buy at all which will leave us with the same strikers force as last season.

Not a huge fan of Cabaye. He's decent.

The CF position is a tricky one. Wenger has actually kept his promise of not signing players that are not better than the ones we already have. There is just a shortage of top class CF out there esp those that are available! Who can we sign really?

If we can get Benz then yes, definitely sign a CF. He is one that will definitely take our attack up a few notches.

Benzema would obviously be great, I'm not unopposed to a younger, more mobile striker like Lacazette too, even if he is unproven at this level.

As much as I like Theo, one of my favourite players, not at all convinced by him as a striker.

Lacazette is obviously an interesting option I admit although a bit risky for the price they would ask for him.

I think mobile is the key word here. Even if Walcott goal scoring is not great, he at least trouble the defence and stop them to press us high on the pitch. He also get marked by 2-3 players which leaves space for the other players.
The problem with Giroud is that he can be taken out of the game by a single decent CB.
