If he isn't quicker than Buxton then they won't like him on here.....
Every team needs at least one 36 year old Macedonian centre-half.
It might have been a flippant comment Jorvik but we have quite a few central defenders who lack pace, Buxton, Pearce, Albentosa and possibly Shackell but only Keogh and Shotton who have any pace. Does this mean we have given up on Shackell?
So, are we saying pace is his Achilles Heel ?
Don't know, he might be quick Anglian but if you go into a game with two slow central defenders the opposition forwards will be able to pass them and put pressure on the goal keeper.
Pace is overated for a central defender
The good ones don't need to be speedy
Did you see Appiah go past Albentosa like he wasn't there in the last game then Bush? Not every defender needs to be speedy but you need to play deep if there is no pace, to prevent the forwards getting one on one with the goal keeper.
Is he to be our new Mackay or Mcgrath. Replaces Keogh hopefully.
Noveski sounds like a novice
I'm not one to pre judge as you all know, but I'm a bit doubtful about this veteran defender.
If he was any good I would have heard of him like I'd heard of Dave Mackay, Colin Todd and Charlie George. Now younger players I would feel more positive about like when we signed unknowns like Kevin Hector and Roy McFarland.
If only Bucko came from a country which nobody knows where it is on the map. Then we would be signing him for several million.
Does anyone think the team for the first match will consist of all new signings?
Spart,
Not flippant just I think too much is put onto a defender's pace & not on his skill to defend, take the much maligned John Terry, he doesn't have any great pace (I know Cahill has pace to cover) but at his age he's still probably the best English defender in the Prem.
Both full backs aren't slouches & admitted they have to improve their defensive skills but there is pace at the back for Derby
