For me he's a decent, efficient holding midfielder who just gets on with his job. Nothing more, nothing less.

You could and should have done better than that considering you can buy just about any player you want.

I for one like mikel, He has made some mistakes but then WHO in our side hasnt. He was not bought as a defensive midfielder as his position in his national team suggests it was us that made him play there. He has a tendency for the simple pass and that is why he appears to slow the game Down. there have been many occasions where he shows his talent as a ball holding midfielder as he can sometimes turn in very tight Spaces with two sometimes three opponents close by and not lose the ball.

He s out player end of, one of the Munich lions

You d think he s stolen from your families the way he s vilified

The biggest myth is that Mikel comes on and Chelsea go from winning to drawing or from drawing to losing.

How many times has one of those actually happened in his 280 appearances?

I think the problem is he is an average player who was touted for much bigger things. He doesn't do anything wrong.......but at the same time he doesn't do much right. I think the op got it spot on with "he gets on with the job" which is true, and it is neither a good or a bad job.

Typical victim of the Jose way, the man coaches out all flair from the game of talented players (Oscar, Salah, Cuaduardo* etc..) and turns them into ineffective work-horses.

Mikel came as a fantastic prospect could've been a powerhouse of a midfielder with the technical skills to match but Jose turned him into an anchor midfielder with very limited freedom, from then his Chelsea career has fizzled out

Wish Arsene took him when United & Chelsea were fighting over it, had we developed him instead of waiting on Diaby I think he'd have become some player

Oh well

the OP is spot on. This is not the Mikel that came 2nd behind Messi as the best at the U20 world in 2005. There must be a reason Man Utd and Chelsea fought over his signature.

Mikel chose to be in Chelsea due to pressure from his Dad and he has no regret about it as a Nigerian.

These type of articles are pathetic!

Having a view that a player is not very good does not amount to laying into him ffs!

Do you know what OP, people like you are just as annoying to fans as people who criticise players are to you it would seem.

I have watched every chelsea game near enough, paid thousands and thousands of pounds, watching chelsea since mikel has been there. I reckon in the 10 years lets say he has been here, I have missed 5 games? the joys of internet streaming, sky and going to matches.

I remember when mikel came into the team, it was quite exciting actually, this youngster breaking through, looked like a young ballack, calm on the ball, relaxed and strong. And a year later he was the same, and then the same, then regressed and regressed and regressed as the speed of the PL, the tactical side of football and technique of passing has increased. He has been left floundering.

The guy is like a slightly better bogarde to me, hes on a par with a maniche but longer serving. you find it disrespectful hes won 10 trophies with us, I think the guys won the jackpot. Lets face it other than munich, when we could of put stephen hawking in the midfield and somehow still won he has not offered anything positive to us and has been a complete passenger.

The guy cannot pass, even short, its usually to slow or behind the player, dawdles in possesion, cant mark a trash can, and has the agility of a tortoise. He was an AM, ill give you that, but that was 10 years ago, if a pro footballer cannot improve on a position in 10 years, a game he trains at every day, then wtf is wrong with that person?

Mikel gave away possesion against barcelona in the first leg in the first 5-10 minutes at home, and sanchez hit the bar. We would of been out and never won in munich had he scored. That somes up mikels 10 year career at chelsea.

I bid you a goodnight
