John, really appreciate you posting that and I had no idea you'd been involved with John Rudkin to that extent.

I have a real concern about the fact that the owners are trusting in people, such as Whelan, Neville and Rudkin, to perform a job which may be beyond them - namely overseeing the transition of Leicester from a yo yo club to a top 6 club with European ambitions.

Do you also share these concerns from your dealings with them?

Same question to you Nev....

Or should I be more reassured that they are the people we need to move forwards....

Thanks JG. Interesting and inciteful as ever.

Not sure if we have gone slightly off-piste here but whilst I can see some attributes in Ranieri, he isn't what you would call an inspired appointment!

Leicester have been praised in some circles for a reasonably modern approach to sports-science and development but I can't help but think they are somewhat dated in their knowledge of the game. As you say, the owners and Susan Whelan have done so much right for our club but football people they are not.

I hope they are right about Ranieri and we are wrong but is does feel too much like "Sven, the sequel" to me.

I would have preferred a younger manager with fresh ideas (someone in the Laudrup, De Matteo mould) but like everyone here, I will put my faith in the "first choice" and hope for great things!

Joby if I had a swingometer, mine would be sitting at 4. Pearson would be 4.5 and Klopp 5. I can't think of anyone better than Ranieri personally.

His record for improving teams is impressive and I have confidence he can get us into Europe and win cups with us too. I think we're a good club for him because he can build on what Pearson left and make us stronger, something he's done with a lot of teams in his career.

I'm not judging him on four poor games for Greece, who are awful anyway and are still awful. Like he said, you can't build on sand. I'll be very surprised if he's not a success.

Got back yesterday evening and decided to pop over to Loughborough to see under 21's. Great to see that Ranieri was there taking interest -also from my point of view the two I am always backing -Doodo and Panayiotou had stormers

TB - nothing much on Simpson, but he was at the far end of the ground from us for his half.

Already posted my thoughts on who looked good - here they are again for ease of reference:

'On the plus side the B team looked good coming forward (King, Albrighton, Krammy, Vardy, Shlupp). Also our young left back Chilwell looked promising. Only Mahrez impressed from the A team'.

That's going forward really, defenders were generally OK except perhaps Moore and Fuchs not quite up to speed. Huth would be the pick as usual, Wasyl OK. Kasper almost saved the peno. Schwarzer didn't have anything much to do.

JG - I've been quite impressed with Ranieri so far, feeling slightly more relaxed about next season, although we still need those midfielders and the proof of the pudding...........

Surprised to see Panayiotou is only 20, he seems to have been around for ages. I've just checked his first goal for the first team was against Leeds was in May 2012. Perhaps he'll get a chance this year, although we are not short of strikers?

He is a great lad -comes from Saffron Lane estate and been at the club since he was around 10/11 - also associated with Aylestone Park FC - hope he gets his chance - Joe Dodoo came to us around 12/13 age from Nottingham and will be very good I think
Claudio has reputation for giving youth a chance so it gives these lads an incentive
