Same on celebrating his goals, I couldn't care less who scores for us,
@chicken
It's a good debate to be had with berbatov if I had the stats to show you I would but there is the difference between being lazy (as ade is) or players that look lethargic (as berba does)
The difference with berba is that you will find his yards covered and touches will be quite high. Being a quality player the team will look to feed him so he will receive the ball a lot even if he doesn't want it. I went to every game during berbas first season and he always looked for the ball.
The best way I can get across ade is lazy is to compare his games. Compare a game under sherwood to one under Avb for example. There is no justification as to why one match he will run his heart out or another match where he will be borderline statuesque. That's down to laziness regardless of motivation from either head coach. It brings me back to my disappointment that he could be a great player if could be bothered.
I am not getting at you mate but every bit of criticism is deserved in ade's case.
In regards to his behaviour go down to the training ground have a chat with a few people be it parents or staff. Everyone knows what he is like and Has a story to tell. His latest stunt was not training with the national team turning up the day of the match scored two goals then told the coach to f'off then went home!
Let's hope Timmy can handle him second time around.
The Ace,
So it hasn't worked out for him because he's an ex arsenal player? Does that apply to the other clubs he's been at where it hasn't ended well Ade has purple patches where he can't stop scoring, he performs under certain circumstances like if he has a contract to play for or a point to prove, the rest of the time he's indifferent at best, lazy and feckless at worst. The same pattern of acrimony has followed him around throughout his career; there's no smoke without fire. He commands enormous wages that simply aren't justifiable, good riddance.
===============================
I think him being an ex-Arsenal player has a lot to do with it, yes. This is evidenced by fans admitting their refusal to celebrate his goals because he is ex-Arsenal.
Name me a striker who doesn’t have purple patches? I’ve seen you defend Soldado at times and he’s had nothing but purple patches, in fact he’s had one continuous purple patch. Kane will have purple patches – will you be campaigning for him to leave when he does? Ade’s goals return is actually quite good (as you admit ).
It is a total myth he only performs to get a new contract. He performed well under Harry, not so good under AVB, he was brilliant under Tim, and not favoured by Poch. If he only plays to get a new contract how do you explain his form under Tim? It wasn’t in his first season and it wasn’t in his last. That is just a lazy comment that people want to repeat when it suits.
And blaming him for his high wage demands is just silly. What player’s wages are justifiable? Messi doesn’t even deserve to be paid £300m a week.
The Ace,
Chicken tries to dispel all this and fight Ade's corner based mostly on Poch's decision to give him the captaincy in a big game. Who knows why he did it; perhaps as a last resort to motivate him - desperate times require separate measures. He wasn't exactly in a rush to give it back to him, and Poch & the club as a whole can't seem to wait to get rid of Ade by any means necessary.
========================
I’m only fighting his corner for footballing reasons – I will not listen to, or care about, petty hearsay and / or just repeat a rumour or saying that has been posted on another article or said by another club fan.
My agenda is simply that he’s a good player. Everyone has good and bad games. Facial expressions (animated or emotionless) do not concern me. All players want to be paid well. He’s no worse than other players in the same position who have contributed far worse – yet they get praised (i.e. Soldado). Chadli’s form dipped after his Dad’s death. Ade had his personal issues (whether they are genuine or not I don’t know) but gets mocked for dealing with them his way. His missed flights were because his fellow countrymen (and friends) couldn’t get flights home for a few days, and he didn’t want to just up and leave in his posh first class plane laid on just hours after getting knocked out of a tournament – this is something I would probably do and totally respect. But each to their own .
I don’t know why Poch made him captain, but I would like to think it wasn’t out of sympathy or because no-one liked him. Not very professional if that is the case.
PS. The club could have got rid of him during the final TW of last season to West Ham but Levy pulled the plug at the last minute, so clearly not everyone wanted rid of him “by any means necessary”.
LLM,
First and foremost, your post doesn’t come across as though you’re getting at me or anything of the kind – so no need to worry on that score...
Berbatov was just used as an example to be honest – rather than the only other lazy player I’ve seen, I used him because he is still idolised yet still showed signs of laziness.
And I find it difficult to believe all the stories about his behavior, yet in a world where the media love to pick up on anything negative about a footballer, there are no reports, no recordings, no official stories, no nothing – it’s all just hear say. I know you have connections to the club, but one person’s firsthand viewpoint is just an isolated opinion – this doesn’t complete a survey.
The only other person I know who has connections with the club in any shape or form is a friend who’s a match day steward – I don’t know how much exposure he would have with him but he doesn’t think he’s any more arrogant than 50% of the squad.
That aside, based purely on footballing reasons (which is where I prefer to focus) I think he was under-played by Poch, mis-used by AVB and I think he’ll do a job for a man’s man like Tim (as proven by his record under him / Harry). Football is quite a simple game really – made complicated by some people – and if you ask the rights things of Ade, you may just get rewarded for it. Not everything has to be philosophy based.
I guess he will take penalty's
Why is it taking so long? Can't wait for Ade to arrive Here's a look at his goal record:
Metz 2001/3 15 in 44: ratio 2.9
Monaco 2003/6 18 in 78: ratio 4.3
Arsenal 2006/9 46 in 104: ratio 2.26
Man City 2009/12 15 in 34: ratio 2.3
Real Madrid loan 2011 5 in 14: ratio 2.8
Spurs 20011/12 loan 17 in 33: ratio 1.9
Spurs 2012/15 18 in 54: ratio 3
That's pretty good. He can score goals, period. That's what we need. I think with a manager who knows how to use him there's a very good chance he'll do it for us
McParland,
Spot on…. And these figures prove that either, he is bloody exceptional in the one year where he wants a new contract and good for the other years (so it still averages out well), or it is simply a myth that he only performs when he wants a new contract.
Whether he has lazy spells or has a grin on his face that some people don’t like, the guy scores goals.
problem is that there is always something with him. if its not this its that.
family problems, ACN, having to go home for this and that , voodoo, falling out with someone, making silly comments on twitter etc.
always an issue and in the end it just gets a bit tiring.
pain in the facccking arris and I am a bit annoyed that he hasn't faaacked off yet

Chronic,
family problems, ACN, having to go home for this and that , voodoo, falling out with someone, making silly comments on twitter etc.
========================
Refer my article above. Chadli gets excuses made for family issues, Ade gets mocked, he is from Africa so is entitled to play for Togo at the ACN (same as Bentaleb is).
What Twitter comments? Were they the ones about him wanting to fight for his place in the team, or one's giving his side of the story on personal matters - again, nothing different to the majority of Twitter users. They are just petty digs to have a dig at an unpopular player.
The Ace,
Exactly, bother seems to follow him about, his international coach was very critical of him earlier this year. On paper his stats are good, but as ever they don't tell the full story; of the 35 goals he's scored for us in four seasons 28 of them came in his first season and his purple patch under Sherwood (17 & 11 respectively), roughly a season & a halfs worth of play. The other two and a half years he's been stealing a living. He's just not worth the hassle and I'll be glad to see the back of him
===========================
Again, this is typical cherry picking to suit a certain period of play.
Why not just take the overall stats instead of just 1 or 2 selective stats that dont tell the full story at all?
I could make the stats sound even better if i cherry picked - but whats the point - they wont be a true reflection.
Talking of stats, Ade has the most successful win rate of any Spurs captain in history - unlikely to ever be beaten. 100% .
Doesn't really tell the full story though does it, seeing as he was booked, dragged off as sub, and played one of the poorest games i've seen him to date? .

To highlight that further - in his first season Ade scored 18 goals in 37 games for us (17 prem goals in 33 games). In his second season he scored 8 goals in 34 games (5 prem goals in 25 prem games).

Happy to agree to disagree but this is my take on what a debate is like. You say your bit, I say mine, you counteract mine, I reply to yours.
Maybe others will want to join in so we should never judge when the article is finished.
I think my gripe is more that, I just don’t see the same logic being applied to other players that I see used against the more unfashionable / unpopular players.
