We wanna start our European campaign with a bang so will look to get at Wolves straight away. Only one player started for us at weekend so players are either fresh or on debut and looking to impress. We will press wolves try to win the ball back straight away and play quick pass and move football when we have the ball. Valdes uses all his leadership and experience to lead the defence and be our eyes at the back always barking out orders. Luiz man marks the lone striker always trying to get close to them but not committing himself. Vermelean will be the spare cb there to anticipate danger and help Luiz when needed. The fullbacks will both get close to wolves wingers trying to stop the cross and going forward they can both get forward and support our wingers as we have toulalan and Carrick sitting back. Toulalan and Carrick are there to protect the defence, one of their key jobs will be to watch wolves wingers trying to cut inside and they must be there to eliminate this threat. Toulalan and Carrick will very rarely go forward but on occasion if the right opportunity comes up then one can go forward and a fullback will sit deep to cover. James has a free role to go where he wants to get on the ball and dictate the play, he will be hard to mark as he can roam anywhere and he will look to play that killer pass. This is a big chance for Pritchard to show what he can do and he will look to play with confidence and take players on. Pritchard has played a lot irl with Kane for Spurs youth so they have a good understanding of each other's game. Depay will look to be direct and take players on, using asamoahs runs as a decoy to cut inside and either shoot or play a quick ball. Kane is the lone man looking to get on the end of everything, making sure he's first to any spilt shots from the keeper as James and depay will look to shoot from distance. Kane is good in the air and to feet with good strength and with good players behind him they will pick him out.

Home game against some random French team, Back to the diamond today as we will look to dominate possession and stamp home the advantage of playing in front of our own crowd we averaged a whopping 16,111 at home last year and there’s no way the French will be able to cope with the deafening roar resonating from the Tilton Road end.
General game plan:
As I said earlier we are aiming to play a possession based game, not possession for possession sake but crisp, penetrative football,
Quite a narrow system relies on our full-backs getting up and down to create space, BUT with our 2 attacking central midfielders pushing wide will give us a bit more “faux-width”
Cech –
Same old generic stuff come to collect crosses, throw out’s either to the full backs or go long up to Cavani
Walker/Galloway –
Both athletic modern full-backs, perhaps better offensively than defensively, will looks to get up and down the pitch providing some width, banging crosses in for Hulk & Cavani to attack, defensively show the man the line and slam him in the corner
Garay –
The muscle at the back, will man-mark their central striker, throw him off his game and stop him playing at all costs.
Romagnoli –
Nesta’s heir has a certain expectancy about him, A very good defender but also a good ball player, will be the spare man tidying up any loose balls and distributing to our midfield.
De Rossi –
Back to being the anchor man today, huge work-rate output from the ledge and will be expected to do a fair whack defensively today as he’s not given huge amounts of support, That said were the home team and we’ll be looking to be doing the attacking not the defending
Hamsik/Pastore –
Can a side afford to carry 2 play-makers? I reckon so, both are solid hard workers, not your fancy Spanish midget playmakers that don’t put a shift in….both men are capable out-wide so with this in mind their forward runs will also allow them to pull wide forcing the opposition wide creating more space for our 3 front men to operate in….playing 5 so attacking minded players should in theory allow us to over-run them form the off-set
Gabbigol –
The #10….given a free-role today, a really crafty player, capable through the middle as well as out-wide, makes him the perfect candidate for the role, will crop up anywhere making him impossible to man-mark, all this is done for the benefit of the front two as they look to find space
Cavani –
Cav is the target man today, more than capable of playing with his back to goal, will hold the ball up well for our 3 attacking mids to latch on to as well as knocking it on for Hulk to have a go from distance
Hulk –
Comes in for his debut….Another versatile player equally useless out-wide as he is through the middle, has been instructed to shoot on sight…give him his dues, when he hits the ball it stays hit

After a great start to the season we look to continue today with an overpowering performance, commanding the game from the off. Juve are strongest in midfield and we believe Matic and Kondogbia can stifle that strength today. We will limit their attacking threat by playing on the front foot and keeping them pegged back.
We press from the front, the front 4 press the defence, two pressing, one closing off the nearest wide option and the other holding station a little deeper to cut off easy central passes, with Matic, Kondogbia and the FBs together ready for a second stage of pressing and keeping Juve pegged in, leave no time and space to pick their passes and make them rush the ball into the midfield area where we make it impossible to play through, first to every lose ball. Once the ball is played we trap Juve in vertical spaces. If the ball is moved into wider areas then our midfield push across looking to keep things compact and surround Juve on the flank, with the FB also pushing up to shut off space, and the winger on that side coming across to help with the FB, if their wingers cut in Matic, Kondogbia and Verratti are always there ready to close off the route to goal, with Costa and the opposite winger closing off the pass into midfield, look to force them down the flank and cut the man on the ball off from his support, one v one our FBs can stop anyone. When they attempt to get forward in the central third we defend in a 4-4-2, Verratti and Griezmann narrow to the DMs and Aubameyang and Costa together as the first line of defence, pressing the deep midfielders, whilst the 4 man midfield make the game compact and surround Juve in possession, FBs once again pushing up onto the oppositions wingers so we leave them no easy pass, all 4 midfielders and the FBs have high work rates and will look to make it impossible for Juve to retain possession with this high energy pressing, winning it back as quickly as Juve get the ball and pushing forward quickly. The FBs are always tight to their man in the early stages when Juve have the ball unless they go infield off the ball, it is then the job of the midfield to deal with them and the FBs to stop any midfielder who roams wide, if all Juve's players stay central the FBs push inside and we keep things narrow. Terry man marks the CF, Benatia covers his partner, either with quick interceptions or dropping back and stopping flick ons, isolate him.
Defending as a unit high up means we can attack as a unit high up, looking to maintain possession using pace and power upfront to create openings. Lots of rotation in attack with Griezmann coming central and Verratti running wide, Costa dropping in or wide and Griezmann/Aubameyang using the space he vacates or Verratti moving into a false 9 role where he can find the movement of his team mates, all of which will give a great fluidity to our play today. It starts from the back with Terry and Benatia having very good distribution to keep us on the front foot, especially mopping up long balls when Juve attempt to break out, getting the ball wide or into midfield and putting us straight onto the attack. Matic will sit in the midfield, he’s excellent at getting in position where we attack, just behind the play ready to step in if the ball is lost and recovering possession immediately, it is important here that the FB on the opposite flank is narrow here so he can step in if Verratti look to move it into space on the opposite side to where we attack, Matic is quick to cover any space centrally but he needs the FB close enough to not leave a massive gap, something Benatia and Terry also cover when they step up, but all 5 players here are well versed in covering each other. Kondogbia works alongside Matic to make sure we overpower Juve, he can drive forward keep things ticking. FBs can push forward, especially Vrsaljko, we want to draw the FB out to leave space for Aubameyang.
Subs:
If Winning: Garcia and Williams for Verratti and Abameyang 70’. Muniain for Griezmann 80’.
If Drawing: Muniain for Kondogbia 65’, takes over Varratti’s role and the italian drops into a deeper playmaker role. Williams and Garcia for Aubameyang and Verratti 75’, Garcia gets in the box to cause havoc
If Losing: Vrsaljko and Azpilicueta off, Jones and Garcia on 65’, 3 at the back, Garcia in behind Costa where he can start to win the loose balls. Muniain for Kondogbia 75’, comes on and looks to play higher up and create chances for us.

First Champions League game of the season and a repeat of our last league game away to Arsenal. A bit more attacking than the 4-5-1 with Ramsey in more of a CAM role today, Turan and Sterling either side of him in a 4-2-3-1. Handanovic in goal, Debuchy, Subotic, Howedes and Gaya along the back, Gundogan and Strootman the midfielders, Turan, Ramsey and Sterling behind Lewandowski upfront. Plan on playing our usual style instead of being scared of Arsenal, look to dominate midfield and get at their defence with our powerful attack.
This game is about controlling the tempo and giving us the best chance of getting three points today. Arsenal have some world class players in their side although we have some world class players of our own to hurt them and cause them real problems. Our front three with assistance from the fullbacks should create plenty of chances, and in midfield we have a trio who can dictate the game in Gundogan, Strootman and Ramsey, we can control the possession and the flow of the game. Turan at RW and Sterling at LW both able to cut inside and get at the Arsenal defence with Debuchy/Gaya overlapping. Lewandowski upfront to give us a physical presence and somebody who is able to hold up possession as well as create chances for himself and his teammates.
Handanovic - Distribute from the back to the fullbacks/CM's, stay in communication with your defence throughout, be wary of long range efforts and ensure you stay big for any one on ones. On occasion go long for Lewandowski.
Subotic/Howedes - Howedes to mark their striker, force him high up the pitch thus limiting his impact close to goal, and Subotic to be the spare man, be first to the second ball and their second striker/AM making runs from midfield. If they play two strikers pick up a man each and leave Gundogan and Strootman to deal with the AM. When in possession bring the ball out of defence and use the midfielders ahead of you to help us play out from the back. Both of you go forward for setpieces.
Debuchy/Gaya - Both of you to force the Arsenal wingers out wide, do not allow them to come inside as this will cause more problems for our midfield. They will want to cut inside so force them outside and block their crosses at source. They will try to create problems infield so its vital you only show them down the wing. If they play a diamond with no wingers you will need to form a narrow back four with the CB's and leave no spaces in behind. When we have possession, push forward and support Turan/Sterling as they will try to run inside the fullback and you will provide the overlap to either create space or supply crosses into the area for Lewandowski and link with Gundogan/Strootman/Ramsey. You will need to track back very quickly to ensure we don't get caught on the break.
Gundogan/Strootman - Both of you playing the box to box role, both assist the CB's in dealing with the Lewandowski attack when we don't have the ball, if they play an AM stay on him, but don't follow if he drifts wide. Be first to any loose balls, in possession Gundogan to look for the attackers and pass rather than bring the ball out, Strootman to burst forward to join the front four on occasion and bring the ball to create space for others.
Turan/Sterling - Both playing out wide and both have the pace and trickery to beat the Arsenal fullbacks and get crosses in, but both of you will also have our fullback overlapping giving you the chance to cut inside and get shots in. Look to supply Lewandowski with chances and also provide yourselves with chances. Link up with Gundogan/Strootman/Ramsey, and capitalise on the space Lewandowski's presence will create for you. Without the ball I expect you two to track back and assist your fullback.
Ramsey - Ramsey to burst forward to join the front three as our AM, look to receive the ball and run at the Arsenal defence, bring the ball to create space for others and look for the runs of Turan/Sterling/Lewandowski. Shoot if you get into position, also force the Arsenal defenders to foul you when you're attacking as you're lethal from setpieces. Link with Lewandowski regularly.
Lewandowski - you will be expected to occupy the Arsenal centrebacks, hold up possession and look to turn the defender and shoot. Be strong in the air and look for your teammates trying to pick you out from deep. Shoot on sight. Stay on the last defender's shoulder for any passes in behind.
------------------
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Ramsey off, Gustavo on. Gustavo plays deeper alongside Gundogan and Strootman in a flat 4-5-1, Turan to RM with Sterling at LM, absorb pressure and hit on the break.
If drawing: Strootman off, Mata on. Same system, slight reshuffle. Ramsey to CM alongside Gundogan, Mata to AM, Turan at RW and Sterling at LW, Debuchy/Gaya to get forward more often. Get closer to Lewandowski to create chances.
If losing: Gaya and Strootman off, Bacca and Mata on. Switch to 3-1-4-2, Debuchy - Subotic - Howedes the back three, Gundogan the deep playmaker, Turan - Mata - Ramsey - Sterling behind a front two of Lewandowski and Bacca. Push for goals in this "must not lose" game.

Game 2 of Birmingham’s European adventure leads us nicely to a game against some of Italy’s finest, home game and one we need to dominate
This week we stick with the diamond in midfield as we will look to keep hold of the ball and look to over-power them in midfield, retaining the ball and playing at our own pace as we move them about creating space for our front men to exploit
Cech –
Standard stuff I’m afraid nothing exciting – do the basics right and the rest will fall into place
Walker/Davies –
Flying fullbacks both are arguably better going forwards than defending, we will use this as a plus point not a negative as both men are given the freedom to push up and down the pitch, giving our side some much needed width,
Garay/Romagnoli –
If they go two up top then we go man to man marking….if it’s a lone striker then it’s Garay that man marks him with Roma acting as the sweeper, dealing with the loose balls….Both men are comfortable in possession so are more than capable of carrying the ball out from the back and moving it forwards
De Rossi –
The muscle in the midfield will look to act as a defensive shield, cutting off any attempted through balls before our defence needs to deal with them – IF our side is under heavy pressure then De Rossi will drop into centre-defence enabling us to switch to a 3-5-2
Delph –
The engine in the middle of the pitch, playing the box-box role for us today, helping out defensively before bursting his lungs charging forwards helping out in attack
Hamsik –
Playing deeper today than usual, but his range of passing will be an asset in the middle of the pitch as he looks to be the spring-board for our attacks, capable in possession will be given the freedom to maraud forwards with the ball drawing opponents to him before off-loading to a team-mate
Pastore –
Skeletor plays as the #10 today, given freedom to roam about the pitch making it hard to be man-marked will be the link up man, playing off 2 big strong strikers, will look to put his foot through any knock-downs and have a go from distance
Cavani/Hulk –
Both men are decent goal scores, both big strong specimens and can both play wide…..not your usual combination for a partnership, but it is what it is……one will drop one will kick on, by varying it they’ll be harder to man mark, and it’s this versatility that I’m depending on as they look to create space for each other and our attacking midfielders….Cavani has a real predatory instinct and anything in and around the box, if it falls to him could easily be a goal…..Hulk well what can you say – if he has the ball it’s probably in range and he has the freedom to shoot on sight
Subs –

We need an overpowering performance, commanding the game from the off. We will limit their attacking threat by playing on the front foot and keeping them pegged back.

Once the ball is played we trap Juve in vertical spaces. If the ball is moved into wider areas then our midfield push across looking to keep things compact and surround them on the flank, with the FB also pushing up to shut off space, and the winger on that side coming across to help with the FB, if their wingers cut in Matic, Vidal and Verratti are always there ready to close off the route to goal, with Costa and the opposite winger closing off the pass into midfield, look to force them down the flank and cut the man on the ball off from his support, one v one our FBs can stop anyone. When they attempt to get forward in the central third we defend in a 4-4-2, Verratti and Bellerabi narrow to the CMs and Aubameyang and Costa together as the first line of defence, pressing the deep midfielders, whilst the 4 man midfield make the game compact and surround Juve in possession, FBs once again pushing up onto the oppositions wingers so we leave them no easy pass, all 4 midfielders and the FBs have high work rates and will look to make it impossible for Juve to retain possession with this high energy pressing, winning it back as quickly as Juve get the ball and pushing forward quickly. The FBs are always tight to their man in the early stages when Juve have the ball unless they go infield off the ball, it is then the job of the midfield to deal with them and the FBs to stop any midfielder who roams wide, if all their players stay central the FBs push inside and we keep things narrow. Benatia man marks the CF, Mussachio covers his partner, either with quick interceptions or dropping back and stopping flick ons, isolate him.
Defending as a unit high up means we can attack as a unit high up, looking to maintain possession using pace and power upfront to create openings. Lots of rotation in attack with Aubameyang coming central and Vidal running wide, Costa dropping in or wide and Bellerabi/Aubameyang using the space he vacates or Vidal moving closer to Costa where he can find the movement of his team mates, all of which will give a great fluidity to our play today. It starts from the back with Benatia and Mussachio having very good distribution to keep us on the front foot, especially mopping up long balls when Portsmouth attempt to break out, getting the ball wide or into midfield and putting us straight onto the attack. Matic will sit in the midfield, he’s excellent at getting in position where we attack, just behind the play ready to step in if the ball is lost and recovering possession immediately, it is important here that the FB on the opposite flank is narrow here so he can step in if Juve look to move it into space on the opposite side to where we attack, Matic is quick to cover any space centrally but he needs the FB close enough to not leave a massive gap, something Benatia and Mussachio also cover when they step up, but all 5 players here are well versed in covering each other. Vidal works alongside Matic to make sure we overpower Juve, he can drive forward keep things ticking. FBs can push forward, especially Luis, we want to draw the FBs out to leave space for our wingers.
Subs:
If Winning: Garcia for Bellerabi 70’, extra power and know how to see out games. Oscar for Costa 75’, Aubameyang goes upfront. Kondogbia for Verratti 80’.
If Drawing: Oscar for Verratti 70’, pushes closer to Costa. Williams for Bellerabi 75’, fresh pace and flair. Mitrovic for Costa 80’.
If Losing: Jones and Williams for Azpilicueta and Luis 65’, go to 3 at the back, Williams out wide allows Aubameyang to move into a front two with Costa. Oscar for Matic 70’, Verratti plays deeper, Oscar creates chances.

--------------
First Champions League game of the season and a repeat of our last league game away to Arsenal.

Subs –
65 minutes
If we’re winning or drawing then no changes as it must be working
If losing
Berardi > Pastore
Gabbiadini > Delph
And line up in a 4-2-2

We need an overpowering performance, commanding the game from the off. We will limit their attacking threat by playing on the front foot and keeping them pegged back.
We press from the front, the front 3 and Vidal press the defence, two pressing, one closing off the nearest wide option and the other holding station a little deeper to cut off easy central passes, with Matic, Verratti and the FBs together ready for a second stage of pressing and keeping Juve pegged in, leave no time and space to pick their passes and make them rush the ball into the midfield area where we make it impossible to play through, first to every lose ball.
