More power is a fact not opinion nobody argues that, very different from controller preference which is opinion
Children let's try to keep the díck waving to a minimum here shall we. Power or not sales or not overall these consoles are the same, as they were last gen as they were the gen before that, let's not pretend otherwise. You get the same experience on multiplats, however so far Sony is doing everything right and has come up trumps with most the "big" brands this time round. Sorry rtm but Sony is way out front at this moment with coming first/dlc etc, I'm not saying m$ hasn't got anything just Sony now has most the big yearly sellers.
This board is mainly d)ck waving to be fair, at least with this gen. I still stand by my earlier comment that both are poor so far.
They are not the same though Simon, you can argue the differences aren't huge but nobody argues the PS4 has the more potential, multiplats have been performing better on the PS4 especially resolution wise and another reason people are choosing the PS4,
hell your as neurtral as they come but even you chose the PS4 after weighing it all up
RtM likes to think this gen is a level playing field, with the numbers the PS4 is doing it's anything but, hence the deals Sony are making.
I agree with melton. This gen hasn't been that great. Compared to last gen, there hasn't really been any standout games so far either. Also no one is questioning the ps4 is the more powerful console, it clearly is, but its just an updgrade of the ps3, there isn't really anything innovative about it. You want power, buy a gaming PC.
Tumble you are correct a gaming PC can be extremely powerful, I used to do all my gaming on PC but it isn't all rosy.
I bought the PS3 for the Blu Ray player but soon realised gaming was so much easier on console, I wasn't chasing the power boost, software performed perfectly with no problems, driver, virus issues had gone.
PC gaming has it's place and I have been thinking of getting back into it, but don't confuse the consoles and PC's they are operating in different worlds.
As for Stand out games, there have been a few Bloodborne comes to mind.
Having played a couple of games on both, the difference in the multiplatforns is pretty negligible, particularly depending on what TV is being used. Personally, as I said, I tend to play them more on Xbox as I prefer the controller far more than I notice any graphical differences, particularly since the last round of updates.
So far the exclusives have been better on ps and so I use that a fair bit too. I am looking forward to the MS ones coming up though and I have a feeling they'll have something up their sleeve with windows 10 too.
I don't really get the t)t for tat arguments, both have merits and if someone is really into gaming, then the answer like last generation is to have both. As it currently stands, I would personally wait for either though until the newer models come out with higher storage and only have them both as they were gifts for me and my son.
If you were to take one away, I really wouldn't be that fussed which one though. Probably the ps.
Melton I always find the argument that if your really into gaming you somehow need both, Arguably it would make more sense to own a PS4 and a PC, there could maybe be an argument for waiting for the new Nintendo than an xone who's 3rd party games are running better on the PS4 and first party games that most the time end up on PC anyway.
The xone just doesn't offer anything that can't be achieved better on other devices, sure if you have to have the controller or you have to play Halo then buy an xone, but for general gaming it is not the best choice
MS will make a splash around Christmas trying to gain the Christmas market then go into hibernation relying on third party offerings to fill the void just like they did last year.
Amiga,
That argument is effectively saying that you aren't interested in any Xbox exclusives. Whilst that's an opinion you are entitled to have, it's not one that every one holds. Forza, Halo and GOW are all brilliant games. For multiplayer, I've always found live to be a more stable platform than psn with less lag too.
You are far too critical of the Xbox one, which I don't get considering you haven't got one or play the games. I don't get why you can't accept some some people prefer it. That doesn't make them wrong or having a worse quality of life due to it.
There really is hardly any difference between them with the cross platforms. I get some people want to feel they own the best bit of hardware they can, it really doesn't play out much if at all to the naked eye. Both have, so far, made games with very good graphics but pretty poor gameplay.
"Arguably it would make more sense to own a PS4 and a PC"
If you're into gaming, I took having a PC as a no brainer to be honest. It trumps either of them by a considerable distance.

Although more or less true i have started to full into the laziness trap of consoles, and with my lack of gaming time it is the prefect solution, i could certainly see how you could game happily and not miss too much on consoles. Basically i would think only if you are an RTS/hardcore RGP fan, but if this was the case you wouldnt bother with a console i suppose..........
It is great to see the re emergence of the PC though and some wonderful games coming out on that platform and for it not to be just an after thought which for quite a few years it was.
There is not a lot the xone offers that I am interested in and the fact you mention the same old games trotted out year after year is hardly inspiring, I'm not an fps fan, so Halo holds little interest and has been flogged to death, GOW is on it's last legs and their showing at E3 was uninspiring, Forza see Gran Truismo so no need for an xone there either.
Critical or not the xone doesn't actually fill much of a need this gen, there is no real advantage to owning one, especially when you consider your last statement that if your into gaming you own a PC making the xone even less relevant as many so called exclusives end up on PC.
It makes no difference to me what people buy, but most people this gen are of the opinion the PS4 is the way to go, I'm just pointing out why that is happening.
Absolutely Simon, I fall into the trap too with the ease of use of consoles. In my serious gaming days though, PC was always the weapon of choice
Amiga, I've got no issues with you being PS4, I enjoy it too (to an extent, as I keep saying, I don't think there has been one game close to being a 10/10 on either of them yet). You are doing the games on Xbox a disservice though. You can't say it doesn't fill much of a need based on your own personal preference of games, it does for the few million that have bought it. Also factor in live as well and the preference that some have for that too.
I'd also argue, like I said earlier, that with what is coming up over the next year or two, there are a lot of good things happening on both and you as a PS4 fan should want it to considering it will push Sony themselves on.
I'm not sure how you can critique considering you haven't actually used it. It's like me saying I'm not a fan of foie gras although I've never actually eaten it.
Sorry mate, but I'm with RTM a bit here. It does seem a bit that whatever Sony do will be ok in your eyes. I don't think anyone really disagrees that the PS4 is curently in better shape, and has been since day one, since the xbox. As much as the xbox isn't as bad as you're making it out to be at times, there is such a thing as excessive fawning.
(I have actually eaten foie gras, I just struggled with an analogy there )
I am actually quite critical of the PS4, to me it is not the greatest and could and should have been so much better, the fact the xone falls short of the PS4 is telling,
As a next gen system the PS4 is the way to go, as for the xone games I'm saying as I see it and I'm not the only one saying it and Halo,GOW,Forza are hardly revolutionary.
I always said Sony has the first party studios to bring not just the games but the innovation, with 3 brand new IP's already this year, There are plenty more on the way, with many studios still to announce what they have been working on.
I know enough about the xone to know it's not for me and a lot of other people have come to the same conclusion (despite many coming from the 360) I know what I want from gaming and xone isn't it, not enough innovation or support, enjoy your xone and i'll enjoy my PS4 along with 25 million others who have made the same choice.
I'm leaning to getting a PS4 myself as I prefer the IPs on that format. But I have to agree that they both have nothing of substance atm and you certainly cannot write off the xone. Windows 10 has a few features which are of interest and I think there may be a few surprises round the corner.
I own both from the last gen and although I play the PS3 more the online section is terrible when compared to the slicker xbox. This is both ingame and on the dashboards. Not to mention the dreaded cinevia DRM that spoils every Oscar time. I also had countless problems with modems and wireless setup on the PS that I never had with the xbox.
Hopefully its well fought battle that keeps us interested and entertained.
Hi Hoop always nice to hear the opinion of another poster
MS have thrown everything and the kitchen sink to pull back this gen and it has had little impact, the 360 and the PS3 duked it out for years, but this is different I'm afraid this gen is already won the only question is by how much.
"As a next gen system the PS4 is the way to go, "
In your opinion. You are emotionally invested in the ps4 so I don't think you really know what the xboxs strengths and weaknesses actually are, let alone the games as you only focus on the three.
You keep going on about a generation being "won". It's childish and stupidly premature to write off a console this early in a generation, particularly on the grounds of innovation considering it was innovative albeit flawed thinking that got Microsoft into the mess they did with the kinect. I've got no idea what not enough support means, live is far better than psn and always has been.
It's quite odd, you are more close minded than people on their football teams boards!
I'll enjoy both the consoles thank you very much and not ram either down other people's throats or their flaws as much as you do.
All I have said in this thread is that it is in everyone's interests for both to succeed and both probably will. This superiority complex is ridiculous.
No not in my opinion in the opinion of 25 million gamers, I am aware of what the xone offers and it isn't enough for me.
As for the generation being won Sony has, if you feel that is premature fair enough but there are a lot of indicaters pointing to just that, hell even you have said as much.
If you knew me you wouldn't say that, but I do have strong opinions and they are based on what I see happening in football life or consoles.
I am not ramming anything but I do have a strong opinion and I will voice it, even if it is a little controversial (I like to keep things interesting)
as for the superiority complex don't you think it is in peoples interest to know whats going on, Buying a console with sales like the PS4 guarantees it's support and success, surely if your buying a console that would be of interest to you, unless you feel bad for the xone for some reason
Oh by the way I am well aware of what the xone has coming (probably more than you) you bought up the 3 first remember.
I'm not arguing whether it is won or not, I'm saying that the argument and saying that in the first place is childish. I don't think either would particularly care as long as they are profitable.
Your last comment there sums it up to be honest. I feel bad only in the context of the rubbish you are saying about it and the potential that you are missing. It's more the fact you feel the need to say it. As you said, 25 million people have bought a ps4, why do you need to convince them further then would be the rebuttal?
Having owned both, the direction that microsoft is going in has improved leaps and bounds since the disastrous opening. That's not to say they have in any way caught up, but they are certainly closer. If you don't think there is potential in what they are doing in the next 18 months, then you clearly don't know enough about it, so why you feel the need to talk about it I have no idea. Do you not see how good Fallout 4 will be with the ability to utilise PC mods?
You are the one putting down the xbox remember, no one else seems to feel the need to be as denigrating as you are.
And I doubt that considering some of your previous comments on frame rates and resolutions. Frantic googling isn't individual knowledge
Not really - he is just pointing out you sometimes come across as way to Sony fanboyey, and although can be amusing you occasionally push it a little much and although you may not mean to it may feel to some that you are too sony and thus "pushing it down peoples throat".
Although i fully condone your point of view and share some of your opionions there are some people who prefer Halo to uncharted, GoW to TLoU and Forza to Gran Turismo. M$ also have lots and lots of future plans and ideas certainly equal to Sony, which you too quickly dismiss.
But any hows lets get this back on topic and not allow it to get down to a slanging match.
It depends on what you mean by won, Sony will see the success of the PS4 as a major plus this gen, I think it's success has even surprised sony, I'm sure it feels like a win to them.
Your taking things too personally, you can't seem to accept simple facts.
At last something I can agree with Phil Spencer is at least a gaming man and has made a lot of good decisions since being given the job, but it was always going to be an uphill struggle he he has done the best he can with the hand he was given.
Closer in terms of what?
I love the fact you feel the need to defend the xone, I just point out facts.
But any hows lets get this back on topic and not allow it to get down to a slanging match.
