For me its a LB we urgently need. Kolarov doesn't seem to want to defend and although I like Clichy, he is a bit past his 'Best Before' date sadly.

I honestly don't think we are in for him, despite the rumours.

We get linked to hundreds of players every summer, some of which the journos are convinced we are after, only for it to be a whole load of shiiiiiit.

LVG hasn't mentioned him once or even eluded to him in the slightest. I think it's a load of nonsense. With no confirmed bids for him, I don't see why it would have taken this long. There doesn't seem to be clubs knocking the door down to sign him.

And the fact he's an Argentine is the deal breaker. You're welcome to him.

He says even though we've just signed another bloody Argentine in Romero

You have a whole new team Stretty! Leave the Argies to us please, we seem to make them work well, you have the Brasilians, they don't seem great here.

If it were up to me......Utd wouldn't sign another S American unless his name was Neymar or Messi. I'd be willing to make an exception for those two.

Aguero too obviously but there's more chance of Steven Gerrard being named United manager than that happening.

They have just been disasters at my club. Falcao, ADM & now Rafael all gone in this window. Latest in a long line of S American flops.

On the pitch Tevez did well for your club but he was only a loan signing....off the pitch I think we all know he was Kia's lapdog.

I think Denayer should be given a chance. He has played international and champions league and looked good. He is only 20 but I think he is ready.

I agree, and we have to find out. Which is why I am surprised we would be in for a CB and not a LB and back up RB. What do others think?

Tevez was very good in his first season with us. Quite poor in second if i'm honest. Missed a lot of easy chances.

He seemed to get it back at City though (for a while)

Have him back in a heartbeat, if he got rid of Kia.

I think they should buy a new lb, but doesn't look like they will. Think they have high hopes for Angelino so lets hope he does well at new york.

I think rb is ok for this year, Maffeo also looks a big talent. So hoping him and Angelino are our future fullbacks.

Agree about left back Bomdia. Clichys top quality days are behind him and Kolarov isn't a defender.
Ryan Bertrand from Southampton would be good.

As for the centre back situation......
Mangala hasn't adjusted and I'm not confident he will.
MDMs legs will stop at some point, same as Rio.
Denayer had a good SPL season but there are no Costas Rooneys or Kanes in the SPL.

We need a top quality partner for Vinnie...he deserves it.

stret hindsight might say he had a poor second season but if that's the case why were united fans singing for Fergie to sign him up. Fergie didn't sign him up not because of his performances but because of the baggage. I'm sure both sets of Manchester fans were not aware of just how big that baggage was.
On the plus side we did get NdJ out of the same baggage cart.

Sadly, Vinny K is the problem for me. What was the stat when Mangala and Demechelis played together? 1 draw and 6 wins. That sort of says it all.

I think Mangala will be a good player, but only when we sign a new LB. All he ever seems to do is cover for the marauding, situationally unaware Kolorov - so ultimately, gets drag out of position all of the time.

With a top quality LB, one who wants to defend first and attack later, our CB's have to only cover their own opposition players. Sadly, either the manager, the 2 spaniards or both, can't seem to fathom out that we are desperately in need of a LB.

For me, Bertrand would be great. I'd even go as far as to say we shouldn't have gotten rid of Rekik and played him there.

Angelino looks like one for the future, 2 years maybe.

Ther are plenty of top class LB's out there, our scouts and our backroom staff just aren't interested, therefore, once again, teams this season will expose our weakness there and nothing will change - once again!

VK is a problem but its a problem that has been forced upon him. In the seasons he's been here he's had to cover for 4 ropey CB starting from Lescott and moving forward. DM took until March to come good so every time for nearly 4 seasons he's been watching and covering both his right and left sides instead of just to his right. I think he was still covering Mangala when he didn't need to and this shows in the way DM just let him get on with it. This season I hope that VK allows Mangala the same freedom and if he does then I think defensively we are stronger than last season.

Raheem......I can never understand why it is that, if us who just watch can see these things, then why can't the people at the top of the club?

Lee.....I hope you're right but I just can't see this defence getting us to a Champions League semi-final.

I've no idea why this happens. Maybe because they see more of them in training than we do. Really not sure.
I think most teams fans will look at their first 11 and identify one area that they feel is their weakness (ie a player they are not keen on and would like a new signing there).

I'm not necessarily sure Chelsea fans would. If Costa is fit, I can't think of any player in their strongest 11 that wouldn't deserve to be their on performances alone. Of course, they could strengthen their squad with an extra striker etc, but solely on their starting 11, I'm struggling to think who they have that would compare to how we feel about our LB's.
Just my opinions and I'm sure fans of these clubs will put me straight:

United: for me, Jones and Smalling aren't great.

LFC: They replaced their weakness with Clyne. Still not sure about Lovren or Moreno, but they've got Gomez.

Arsenal: still think they're missing a genuine leader throughout the team, possibly a new CDMF? I quite like Giroud, but maybe they'll say another striker?

Not sure really, all I know is that last season, both Clichy and Kolorov weren't top drawer. Clichy's getting on a bit now, but I think he's a more solid defender than Kolorov. Kolorov is great for 2 things - free kicks and crosses, but is in no way a defender. No way. LMF maybe, but he has no discipline to be a defender.

So, for the past 2 seasons we've wanted a new, top class LB and it looks like we're stuck with our main defensive frailty again. Maybe when Delph gets fit, he'll offer a bit more protection down the left side.

The defence has never been the same since NDJ left us.

This is a signing that we should have been looking at during the summer, the amount of protection he gave
the back line was one of the reasons the defence during Mancini's reign was so mean.

There is always the old never go back, but i am sure he could still do that job and we could put up with his agent for a season or two.

Well if we were to sign him again, he'd only last this season if Pep is coming. That altercation he had yesterday in the tunnel with Pep would see to that.
