Basically it's nice to win but you don't lose any sleep if you don't.
Did Arsenal get 3 points? Not a PL match then is it.
Its not a PL match is it?
Its an official trophy, but has always been considered a friendly / charity / season opener event.
no right minded club list it as an achievement in any real way.
It is of course a friendly. You can make more subs, refs are more lenient and teams rarely play at full throttle.

I understand that but I see everyone calling it a friendly and it could have been that it was in England. In Holland it's not a friendly either.
Actually it is counted as an achievement.
Arsenal mocked anybody who won the Charity cup now that they won it it's a Massive cup

You don't get 3 points for winning the CL final, so I guess that is a friendly?

It's not indeed. I meant it is a competitive match kicking off the PL season.

You get to play in it when coming 6th so it's worth more than 3 points
Arsenal have done the treble and it's only pre-season

For any chelsea fans trying to diminsh the community sheild, listen to you captain John Terry
“It was a different atmosphere in the dressing room afterwards. We haven’t lost many at Wembley. With that in mind, it’s maybe the boost we needed and we go again for the season. It could be a blessing in disguise for us – a wake-up call. We have experience in the squad. We have the character. It’s going to be even tougher this year.”
The defeat brought an end to José Mourinho’s run of 13 matches unbeaten against Arsenal under Arsène Wenger. Terry said: “It’s disappointing because it hasn’t happened too many times since I have been at the club. Losing is just horrible in all respects.
Forget the record, there was a trophy on the line. It hurt when you saw them walk up the stairs to lift it. When you see them walk up, no matter if it’s a friendly or a Community Shield, it’s a trophy. That’s the mentality I was brought up in. That’s the same as the manager on a daily basis. That’s what he wants and demands from his players as well.”
Moyes won the Charity cup what happened to him? Remind me Godfather

Brilliant video like how Jim White never mentioned Arsenal before Mourinho did
at least 'JT' gives his honest views.
It's a non competitive preseason trophy. In fact it's not even a trophy, it's a shield.
Nobody counts it as a competitive trophy because it isn't. It's basically a small step up from something like the Emirates Cup.
Its definitely a friendly. Before penalities were introduced, clubs used to share the trophy if it was drawn...
There is not a competitive match in the world where you can make that many subs.
So it's not a friendly
"Generally ranked below the FA Cup and League Cup in terms of importance, the fixture is a recognised football Super Cup."
It's a good way to kick start the season. Glorified friendly maybe. But at the end of the day it's still counts as a trophy. Even though it maybe lower than league cup in terms of 'prestige'
It has more on it than say the Chelsea v Florentina friendly coming up, but it is far short of a real competitive game that really matters.

So are John Terry and Mourinho confused?
I agree that it's a very good intro to the season but there's no getting away from the fact that it occurs in preseason and is therefore a preseason and non competitive "trophy".
There's a reason it's called the Shield, because it's not a trophy as such.
