If LVG does what he says and plays 4-3-3 then Mata will unlikely get a look in on the front three if we sign another forward.

IMO he isn't good enough to be part of the midfield three unless we play teams that are parking the bus.

Herrera for me.

Mata, for me... We can now play two deep lying midfielders, meaning Mata can pull the strings without tracking back as much. Play him right and he can help win the league, just look at what he did at Chelsea.

LvG seems to know his worth now, goals and assists are a given.

Yeh maybe against teams doing a Chelsea he'd be ideal. Against attacking teams I feel Mata is a little too slow. I think he's good enough for the number ten role though.

Need to find a way of playing both. At moment it shouldn't be too hard.

Pedro joining, if that happens, could put the cat amongst the pigeons though.

Mata could easily play in a midfield three if he is ahead of 2 of Morgan, Bastien or carrick.

where he would struggle in a three though is if Herrera was on of the 2 behind him.

Se I doubt he's gonna fit both in. It would mean not playing Depay, Pedro, or one of the other Cm's. I can't see it happening too often.

My preference for the midfield 3 would be

Mata Schneiderlin herrera.

Herrera and Schneiderlin are both capable of playing offensively and defensively and at a and Herrera are our most creative players.

Rd I don't think that would work too well. Herrera isn't the most disciplined and Mata isn't defensive minded at all.

Herrera is arguably the most complete midfielder in the league and it's a joke that he isn't one of the first names on the team sheet.

Ideally they both should be playing as they combine brilliantly.

Depends who we are playing. If we play one of ottom teams and they park bus, it would be fine.

But at the end of the day IMO, Herrera is a better midfield player than Mata.

Herrera for me as well. If the rumours regarding Pedro are accurate;

We could line up like this;

Herr Schweinsteirgerlin

Pedro-------Rooney---------Depay

What generally constitutes a creative player. Technically better, more imaginative, keener eye for the unexpected pass, better dribbler.

I've not been blown away by Mata's attacking influence and expected him to create more on a consistent basis but I think it's very hard to argue that Herrera is more creative. I like Herrera a lot too, but the way he's being painted as a Messiah on here is slightly laughable.

What I really like about Herrera is that he drives forward with the ball at his feet. He isn't afraid to go into the space like our other midfielders.

Who knows, maybe that's the trait that LVG doesn't like with space left in behind.

Anyhow, I'd like to see him ahead of Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger, Depay and Young either side.

I just don't see what Mata currently adds to the side, he is constantly muscled off the ball or fond too slow in possession, he doesn't seem to make too many decisive passes and has no physical attributes what so ever. He is a fantastic finisher which is about all he has proven since moving to us.

With the right players around him he's a good player, but we aren't going to build a team around him, he simply isn't good enough.
