Christian Eriksen the Enigma

He's a good player, but that's why he's not in that elite bracket. He's undoubtedly talented, but he doesn't dominate a game like you'd want him to - the way someone like Silva can. He's still got room to grow and it's probably the hardest position to play in, so we'll see.

Dare I say it, would he perform better if he had better midfielders to operate with? Would also wonder if the inverted wingers suits him as it reduces the space for him to play in. Finding that space is probably what makes it so tough to play there, and explains why players such as Silva are far better at it.

Have a look at United's goal on Friday. Look at the way Mata received the ball, laid it off to someone then stepped back a few yards to create the space for the assist. Quality no.10 play.

Yes I think you are overrating him. He's been flattering to deceive for a long time, overshadowing his anonymity in long periods of matches with set piece goals and match winners. He should be more than that with his ability. Makes you start to believe what the Danish manager said about him.

He is one of our better players don't get me wrong, but we've reached a stage where he should be challenged in his position.

Spurtle,I agree he's no Modric is he? A player that could take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate it with his brilliance. Eriksen on the other hand is a real talent but goes missing far to often. On his day he is unplayable but when he's bad he is really bad. I still love Christian but he is nothing on Modric

Not sure why you'd make compare modric & Eriksen as play different positions.

Easier to dominate the game as a CM than playing as a WF / AM

Agree Eriksen should be doing more but then the whole team all need to step up as well

Pretty simple mate modric was our main Guy that created our chances and built up play from his movement. Eriksen is also this guy and we rely on him to dictate the game from midfield.

It's not simple at all as I put play different positions.

Easier to dictate/dominate play when your 30 yards further back than where Eriksen plays.

Bentaleb/Mason should be the ones dominating like modric.

If your going to compare Eriksen to a player from that era it would be VDV who hardly dominated whole matches

Eriksen and Modric play in different positions, can't really compare them like-for-like.

If only you could combine Modric's ball retention, and Eriksen's eye for goal. Would be a hell of a player.

Should Eriksen not pick up his form I'd like to see Alli get given a go, or push Kane back in a number 10 role and play a new striker up front.

Yep and he'd be at one of the best clubs in the world unfortunately

Agree that Modric plays deeper than Eriksen does so not exactly like for like just used him as an example of someone always offering himself to the player on the ball.

Da Silva is a better blueprint for the role I'm suggesting we should be trying to develop Eriksen into. He may not have the twinkle toe ability that Da Siva has but he is creative in the oppositions last third and can score goals. More responsibility would hopefully improve his overall contribution in matches.

Personally I'd stick Eriksen Central only don't rate him coming off the left like he played yesterday.

Still young and can improve with a bit of guidence

This is more along the line I'm suggesting.

Exactly this is my point. I'm just comparing them as in both are instrumental to how we play and how we create chances from midfield.

Spurtle2 Kane has to stay up front as for Alli I would try him at RM.

the reason Eriksen plays deeper is because he would never get the ball otherwise our distribution from the back is not good enough

Park Lane

I'm not sure Kane has to stay up front. He did play some of his games behind the striker last season and it paid off. It will of course depend on who would play in his place. As a number 10 Kane could still get in goalscoring positions, and he's good enough to thread balls through to players, as we've already seen. He will drift in deeper positions anyway.

dembele is by far the most gifted footballer we have… but his decision making and mentality are poor.

No doubt Kane can drop deeper at certain times and can put others in but this should be dependent on how the current attack is unfolding otherwise he stays up front as our main man.

Dembele is the best at keeping the ball but not our most talented player. I would have him playing just behind Eriksen centrally and supporting and covering him.

posted on 16/8/15

Dembele can't pass or shoot so which renders him average at best. Eriksen is our most talented, or Kane

Kane scored 21 league goals last season, we have no other striker, and some people want him to play behind.... Thin air?
