Kids should be banned from pubs as well, usually out of control and are an absolute menace if you want a quite pint.

so how hard is quitting smoking then? for those of you that have done it?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've done it, but after a month fell off the wagon. As I said above though, it has taught me a lesson and I now smoke a massive amount less. 1 a day after dinner during the week.

Still, I probably think about it 2 or 3 times throughout the day... never leaves you.

Chron, I'd be willing to bet that you are addicted to nicotine
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't be surprised if that 1 or 2 a day creeps up.

Happened to me. Quit in March, started "1 or 2" a day in May, just when boozing. Now back where I started more or less.

Nah, I've been going like this since January now. Helps that I started a new job in April and thus far have not had a single cigarette during work time .

OK, come clean you lot, how many of you are addicted to alcohol. I mean how long can you go without a drink. A day? A week? A month? or forever?

I learnt (after trying and failing a couple of times) that you can only do it if you really WANT to stop.

If you're quitting just cos you think you should, it will never happen.

But if you really want to, it's not that hard. Just get in the mindset that you're letting yourself down every time you have one. Cut down over a month or two, so your body isn't so reliant on it. Then one day just make the final decision to have no more.

Worked for me, everyone is different tho.

Some people are social or part-time smokers and can take it or leave it.
I hate those people! (and am extremely jealous)
I tell them they are idiots to smoke if they don't NEED to.
As stated, there are NO positives to smoking, not one!
(can't even look cool as fack anymore)
You stink! You're addicted to something that is killing you, your lungs are filling with toxic waste, you're skint, you're a leper, you'll die early etc You're bieng mugged off by a Govt that has made non-smokers fackin hate you....You're put in the same category as Obese people yet you contribute to the NHS more than you put in...AND every year it costs more to do it....etc.....
The habit is hard to give up though....if you are an addict...........with coffee...after a meal....aftersex.....first thing in the morning etc.....Your body coughs if you haven't had one in a couple of hours...ironic.....
It's a regret....gladly my kids are so against it

----------------------------------------------------------------------

All so true.

However, as a (pretty much) social smoker I look back to when I thought "why the fack bother if you can pick it up and put it down" and see that it isn't so easy.... I still need a ciggy, but I just hold myself longer before I actually have one.

Feel better for not having one in the morning, with a coffee in the garden - but fack do I miss that one the most...

And those fackers never buy a packet btw

I still have 20 pouches of baccy from a load I got my brother to get me last June when he went to France would have been long gone if I was still smoking properly.

Quitting smoking cold turkey is as hard as going cold turkey from Heroine. My lass is a specialist respiratory nurse and is dealing with people trying to quit who really do need to quit and are trying to quit but can't on a daily basis.

Her opinion is that the experience of quitting smoking is vastly different from person to person, with some - mainly people who are 55 to 70, being able to just stop more easily, but past 70 and they're almost definitely not going to. She's told me some great but crazy success stories though.

She had this one woman as a patient who needed to quit for whatever reason, and had tried every paid for way of doing it. She knew she couldn't fail this time though, so took up knitting so that she could knit whenever she wanted one until the need to smoke went away. It worked! She knitted while crying her eyes out because she wanted a cigarette so badly, but she held her resolve and now she's X+ years off of them.

I packed up after 45 years, and have now been off them for 8 years, but as soon as I know my time is nearly up I shall be straight back on them. Having a smoke is so much more pleasurable than getting bladdered and throwing up.

Drinking I find disgusting now, don`t know what people see in alcohol. Absolute no benefit at all, and has serious side effects from an early age. Heavy drinkers die a lot earlier than heavy smokers.

Cigarettes are just a spliff substitute for me.

If i run out I have ciggie.
My kids (9 & 6) have never seen me smoke - i dont smoke at home at all. But BOY do I make up for it when I go out!

I gave up for a month...well 28 days I lasted
It's the only time I ever tried.
The weird thing was tastebuds. I'd occasionally get a steak pie from the food van and once I'd given up I was tasting evil things in that pie I'd never tasted before.

28 days

That's true too... and sense of smell!

This is it... as you are addicted to nicotine, as I said to Chronic.

Your craving for a J, is actually a craving for nicotine.

Yeah, but when you are baked (I find anyway) that I want to smoke less anyway... so being baked naturally makes you want one less.
