We paid a huge amount for Benteke but we needed a striker and he's playing for us.
Jose gets accused of being a chequebook manager more for the likes of Cuadrado than anything else. Paid big money, replaced by Pedro inside 6 months. Before him it was Schurrle. Brought and replaced inside a year. Salah didn't even get that and god knows what happened to Atsu.
Liverpool make expensive mistakes too, every big team does, but the only ones replaced so readily have been Carroll and now probably Mario.

Meh. Jose's ability is hard to question for me. Flawed and imperfect, but the best around right now imo.
Give me Simeone over him at United with that being said. That guy has a future.

not sure im correct but isnt liverpools netspend more than chelseas since he came back, also considering we've won trophies as (not sure again) get more profit from sponsors etc we can afford to spend more as a percentage.
As for cuadrado god knows what that was about but salah, and cuadrado probably cost similar to the sales of KDB and salah, add the sales of mata and luiz to cancel out costa and fab too. Not asif hes just splashing money anymore, did you see us against city! we need it.
KDB and schrulle sales that should say *
KDB is another one actually.
The fact that you come out of it ok on spend is a real testament to the amount you get for players you sell. Got to hand it to you, you get top money. The Luiz deal topping the lot!

kind of shows hes not been a chequebook manager with countless to spend since his return though.
I mean if I had a house for £300k and bought another house for a similar amount and sold the original, people wouldnt go,"oh nick getting the chequebook out again?!" If you catch my drift

Yeah but what would people say if you did it ten times?
Well if you do it for profit they'd say you was pretty smart. Especially if you had outside profits coming in on top of that which chelsea do. Until we sign stones and pedro we are still pretty much in the profit since jose arrived, I dont have the figures but I doubt there is much in it.

In his latest stint maybe less so but he certainly cycles through players.
He's certainly had his moments though. £50m net spend at the start of the second stint. Season 05/06 net spend of £91m - that was prices of a decade ago!
The shocker was the season before Mourinho arrived, net spend of £153m!
The fact is however he's successful. All top clubs are rich and all managers at top clubs are, to a greater or lesser extent, chequebook managers. Combine those two things and you have a reputation. If Mancini had been more successful at City then he'd have the same reputation I'd imagine.

We're not exactly failing at the moment though are we? And neither is Benteke.
Yeah if it wasn't for the porto and even inter I dont know if he spent that much with ibra sale and such then I could definately see it.
Tbh I also find it harsh to judge him on the spendings of 2003-04, abramovich had just came in anyways and people were inflating prices left right and centre and mourinho cant be held responsible for the spending before his arrival.
I think he made a mistake this year by looking stubborn and not spending, we only needed 1 or 2 players imo. Instead the whole team has been demoralised and stale
Leave arouna alone he is getting ready for the big deadline day scramble
Chelsea were played off the park at the Etihead on Sunday. Tick.
As ever, Maureen, in order to camouflage the deficiencies in his team talks total bal locks about the better team losing. Tick.
I couldn't give a monkey's for that team or any other football team. Double tick.
In the whole world. Tick again.
Just clearing up any perceived ambiguities about the team I support.
Time for a Jamesons. Chuck the cork and the tick away; they're not needed anymore.
