LVG is happy with his squad isn't he?
It's not about having pace, or having fast players, BUT it's the pace of play that remains a problem. The passing is slow, methodical and lacking in any speed. The speed of play is what should primarily improve.

True but it doesn't alter the fact that Mata is not a right sided player
Probably Flauvin and Traore too
Valencia is a right sided midfielder/attacker. You just persist playing him at RB.
I reckon lamela would be a good shout. The boy has talent but has wasted the past 2 years of his career. A fresh start is just what he needs
Mahrez looks to be a gem of a player. Never know which way he's gonna go, and always has a good end product. Will be interesting to see if he can keep this up
If you believe LVG is happy with this squad and that he didn't want Pedro.....you're a fool.
We'll be buying at least one player before window shuts. I would put good money on it.
Mats isn't a RW but he didn't play there today either. He played with freedom and I thought he was our only creative spark today. But we still do lack a forward and shouldn't be playing Januzaj if we wish to improve on today. Januzaj looks well and truely out of his depth and one deflected goal won't change that
Merry - He came inside second half and wandered more and yes he was busy but we looked unbalanced. It's not right and agree Januzaj isn't good enough now to play that role. Put Mata or Herrera there at least and get a right sided player in

I agree, we have players that take far to many touches of the ball in midfield, if possible, it should be one-touch, pass, don't give the opposition time to settle back into their defensive shape.
I think there have been some signs of improvement from the Spurs game though, and definitely from last season.
Problem I have with Mata is that he's incredibly slow and really doesn't help out defensively so no way should he be playing on wing. He's left Darmain horribly exposed quite a few times this season and a team like Chelsea or City would have punished us for it.
Mata should be playing at the tip of a 3 man midfield or number 10 or not at all. He's no winger that's for sure.
SE85 - Exactly but why isn't he ? Why play memphis and then Januzaj at no.10 ? Mata is our best candidate for that role. I expect he will pull Rooney back there soon and play Hernandez.
Clearly LvG wants a mobile player behind Rooney, but also recognises the quality of Mata. It's clear however that we need some pace on the right (I long maintained we should have kept Nani) and we also need to up our tempo with the passing.
For the latter to occur, Herrera is the perfect player. We look quicker with the ball when he plays as he brings a bit of urgency and movement to the middle of the field.
For the sake of balance, I'd be tempted to suggest having Herrera in the advanced midfield role and Young on the right. Add some energy, willingness to run in behind and a bit more pace.
We have the same problem with Aaron Ramsey. Putting a player like Mata or him at RW is a complete waste and ruins an important outlet up front.
Barring a dramatic improvement in form, I can't see Adnan playing in that role for long. LVG is trying players out in that position and he will no doubt try Memphis there again at some point, as well as others.
I'll be annoyed if Benzema follows Cech to Arsenal...Both players we could do with...but I would not be surprised to see Fellaini starting matches soon in place of Adnan since we only seem to be able to score by chucking high balls into the box at the moment.
Problem I have with Mata is that he's incredibly slow and really doesn't help out defensively so no way should he be playing on wing.
This is why Jose couldn't use him and only that, Mata is a fantastic player and was our (Chelsea)s player of the year two seasons in a row. but he needs to stay central or he is wasted hed be a perfect no10 for you guys you just need to put a little more trust in him. But if your waiting for him defend you may as well sell him now as JT constantly outran Mata, that's how quick Mata is. Good luck for the season - until you play us of course let hope for a close fight this season to keep us all on edge
Lukaku as the striker - has played on the right before btw. Watch his destruction of Arsenal in 2014 for evidence.
He's able to play centre forward or on the right which makes him valuable.
Townsend and Valencia terrible suggestions.
Of course valencia and young are better options than mata on the wing. We have a very good right back wasted going forward with no support. United used 2/3rds of the pitch because of Mata yesterday.Newcastle were the worst side seen there in the last 3 years and we barely ever got behind them. Schneiderlin less said the better.Lacking any real penetration, herrera and young instead of mata and januzaj who should be nowhere near first team.
