I care one iota what Martinez and Everton board does with their own player, in my opinion they are handling this transfer horribly wrong !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What should Everton have done old wise one?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you happy with this situation your club is now ?
Please don't give me, that it will be the same hanky- dory again after all this debacle !

You never answered my question.

In view of the fact that Stones has asked to leave and the laughable sum of money Chelsea are prepared to throw at Everton, i'd get rid!

I am not saying he's wrong, just my opinion.
31st Aug is a long way away!
Ferguson started out at the bottom and built his way up to the top. Once he got there he was hardly going to leave United to go to a smaller club.
Mourinho worked his way up from the botton as well. He just did it differently and a lot quicker than Ferguson.
Mourinho will never drop down to a small club as he doesn't have to. He's earned the right to manage top clubs which is why he keeps getting hired by them.
Firstly, it looks like they have have consulted with the players, to see how strongly he feels about this move, prior to handing his request to leave.
Secondly, Everton were stubborn and have refused to sit down the negotiation table so that they can reach to an agreement.
Thirdly, all of this because Bill & Other Board Members are banking on your manager promises that he can deliver CL footy this season, by keeping their best players!
it looks like they haven't consulted with the players *

Consulted with players....
They have told John he will not be sold, John was happy to sign a contract and now
Yep Mourinho knew how to butter up Fergie.
I doubt the Everton board are banking on Martinez getting them cl football. They might get into the Europa, however. And a big money offer for Stones next season, along with the increased tv revenues, gives Everton a better opportunity to bring in the required quality and depth to compete on two fronts next season.
Last season they struggled because their squad is crap.
Look there has been plenty of cases where players haven't been happy at Chelsea for one reason or another, the case in point being Kevin De Bryne, Schurle etc... Chelsea moved them on, because if you think about it, you'd want your players to be with heart and mind 100 % focused in order to get the maximum from them. Keeping a player against their will is bad news , but, that's just my humble opinion.

No, I think he has promised them CL this season if they keep all their players. Getting into Europa league is not a big achievement, in fact Everton have been regular participants whilst selling their best players (apart from last season).
Did he?
Everton haven't been regular participants. They've only been in it once in the last six seasons including this one.
It is actually an achievement, establishing themselves as regulars like say Spurs or Liverpool is something they should be looking to do.
I don't think Europa league is incentive enough to be considered an achievement, and most English teams don't take this competition very seriously,
Yes, Everton were in Europa league last year too !
Everton took it seriously.
Them becoming a regular is as big an achievement that they can really hope to achieve. They won't be getting in the CL any time soon and I don't believe the Everton board are naive enough to believe they will.
Europa is achievable, whether deemed and achievement or not, so having the resources to address the squad ahead of it next season makes sense, in my opinion.
Don't agree with Jose's thinly veiled swipe at Benitez regarding Chelsea's Europa cup win.

I don't know. Because I don't know whether Stones doesn't believes in their project - he may believe in it but have higher ambitions - and I don't know whether this will make him unfocused and if it does whether it will have such a detrimental effect that they can't finish above a poor Spurs team.
