I'm a big, big fan of Reus but look, if we had paid 60 mill (assuming this is true anyway) and he hadn't performed or had a lot of injuries, fast forward 10 months and this board would forget the feeling of signing him and whinge, moan and kick off before moving on to the next shiny toy and acting like he was a bad signing.
The amount of grief given to lvg about signings is nonsense. This time last year we were all buzzing our t!ts off about ADM and Falcao. Now they didn't have a grata year granted, but people bung them in with mistakes by lvg or whatever people want to label them.
I almost don't want us to bother with big signings anymore, the expectation is massive and people spend more time moaning about them than anything else. If reus didn't score or assist each game, the complaining would get very old very quick. Better for him he stays with Dortmund tbh
There is no evidence, as far as I am aware that this is true. Would Dortmund have even considered it is another question.

The problem here is that we have made a big signing, in terms of money, but it's someone whom a lot of people have never heard of.
Paying £36m+ for Martial is far, far riskier than paying upwards of £50m for the likes of Di Maria or Reus.

Of course the manager will get the blame if he spends 60 mill on a player, and pays another 300k a week and they both flop.

Don't take this the wrong way but you don't appear to know very much about football.
i dont think the coach actually decides how much the club pays for the player or salary
ffs

lol... so now LVG is immune from any criticism for players bought, and how they perform. No wonder he has fans left still.

Of course, I agree with you. However, we're damned whatever we do. Hypothetically, we could have signed Reus and he struggle for 2 years. By that point, Martial could for all we know have really motored on, ended up at PSG or Bayern or the like and people would moan that we don't spot and take a chance on talent. That'd something been said many a time with the likes of Neymar and others. There comes a point where you have to have some faith, take a punt and buy a player. They may be a freebie like Romero, who people have complained about, an unfashionable but effective player like Morgan, who people have complained about, an established 'world class' player like ADM, who people have moaned about, or someone young with potential, like Memphis, who people have complained about.
Sometimes, you just have to accept that you win some, you lose some. We aren't the only club in that boat and it's why there is an increasing transfer merry go round each window.

Ron appears to think that real life plays out like Fifa #4za,im not sure there is much point trying to reason with him mate
If Reus was available we would have bought him. We've been desperate for a marquee signing
Reus is good but no way is he worth £60million.

You really are a special kind of stupid
Neymar was quite known before being bought by Barca. This Martial guy hasn't been heard of and we fork out quite a lot with reports it could end up being £60 with add ons. The fact that people in France are astonished speaks volumes. The last player we got from France which ed astonished people there was Obertan.
Now, he could go on to be the second coming of Messi or C. Ronaldo but at this moment in time I think people should rightly be worried about our transfer dealings in the last few days.
On Falcao and Di Maria the former was seen as a risk that didn't work out while the latter, though even at the time I thought we overpaid by a lot, was a world renowned winger who just didn't fit into the system that LVG wants and seemed to stop trying after some poor performances. He was rightly criticised and didn't stay to convince anyone otherwise and left for his initial choice, PSG. I think we are within our rights to complain about his performances as we are doing of Rooney of late.
People seem to overlook one important factor when names like the op mentions are bandied about. These players have to want to come play in Manchester for 3-4 years. The competition to attract players has never been greater so a lot of factors do come into the equation I.e climate, capital cities, spouse's, girlfriends,
Christmas break etc
