Michael Owen isn't even the best British footballer ever yet he won the European Footballer of the Year and scored something like 40 goals in 85 games for England, yet his achievements still surpass that overrated hit-and-run merchant.
If Bale was still playing for us the comments would be a lot different

No it wouldn't be.
He hasn't even won a league title. Let's leave off the hyperbole until he achieves a bit more in his career.
Champs league and dragging Wales to the Euros are fairly commendable achievements but he'll have to do a helluva lot more than that to really be considered as one of the best British players of all time.

I saw George Best on many occasions, and believe me the poster that said Bale is not fit to lace his boots is 100 per cent correct. Best was different Gravy to Bale.

I agree with you Sandy. Whilst Bale is a brilliant player who can turn a game in a heartbeat, Best was really in a different class. I suppose the only current day player you could compare Best to is Messi, and I still think he was better.
