How on earth is Smalling being mentioned ahead of Koscielny? Really boggles the mind.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a huge man crush on Kos, in my mind he's the best defender in Europe
So I was just trying to be objective and not clouded by bias plus Smalling has been immense lately

Ramos, Silva, Smalling, Pique, Kompany and many, many others...
You lol'd at Koscielny but kept a straight face when Smalling was mentioned? Ok then.

Smalling was in Garth's team of the week a few weeks ago so I think you'll find the lol'ing is all at Koscielny.
I'm not even Coquelin's biggest fan. But he has at least been doing it for a year. Yet the Manc clowns laugh him off.
Smalling for a couple of games. Yep. Chuck him in. Couldn't make it up.
Smalling is legit a better defender than Arsenal have had since Sol Campbell.

Think Dier has been equally if not more impressive than Coq this season helping us to the best defence in the league currently....but neither should be near a team of 'best 11 (yet)'
On paper at least a best 11 from our league would do ok against others, but we're not exactly blessed with world class defenders...up against a combined Neymar/Messi/Ronaldo 3 would probably get slaughtered.
Main problem is football isn't played on paper, and comes down to how teams work together. Our Top 4 are looking like a group of players who are good enough to beat others in the league rather than playing as a team.
Look at the work rate of Barca or Atletico out of possession and how they play in it. Real seem tighter this year.
Even 'lesser' CL teams seem to be playing as a unit and making what would have been 'gimme' games a couple of years ago now very challenging!
Would a PL XI beat any of Europes elite?
No
I think that side in the OP would get screwed over in midfield. Look at the standard Barcelona line up:
------------------------Bravo------------------------
Dani Alves---Pique-----Mascherano---Alba
-----------------------Busquets--------------------
------------Rakitic---------------Iniesta-----------
-------Messi--------------------------Neymar-----
------------------------Suarez-----------------------
For me, the midfield has got to be able to keep the ball, it's all well and good playing the 'Premier League style' of power and pace but in Europe it's more tactical and any mistakes are pounced on.
I would go for this line up:
-------------------------De Gea---------------------------
Coleman----Smalling---Kompany---Azpilacueta
-----------Schweinsteiger------Matic-----------------
------Sanchez---------Silva-------------Hazard------
-------------------------Aguero---------------------------
