So you think hes good, then?

In that case, you're on the wrong thread. This is a thread from a Spurs fan, arguing that he must be sheite, because he finished below Spurs.

Errr no. That would mean I'd think Koeman was shiiite and Martinez, and Monk. I think they are better managers than Rodgers at the moment.

To take a trophy winning side, spend £300m and then leave it in a worse state takes some skill, so lets not take that away from Rodgers

He's excelled himself there.

I would also add that it takes a lot to be an ex-defender and know absolutely nothing about organising a defence.

So...is he good, or sheite? I can’t work it out.

He never lost to Everton or Spurs, in 3 years.
But I imagine that finishing below Spurs probably is the benchmark for what’s considered sheite for us. I 'm just a bit surprised that Spurs fans think that's something to celebrate..

You’re right, our next manager probably will be expected to finish above Spurs, and probably be expected never to lose to Everton , too, (in spite of the brilliance of their managers ).

So the job comes with a litle bit of pressure, but the rewards are good. (Unlike at Spurs or Everton, where the rewards are also good, but no pressure...good work, if you can get it).

Wessie - you honestly have to ask yourself if your rivals should be Everton and Spurs or Chelsea, United and Arsenal in order to answer that question

If its the former then Rodgers has done an okay job, if its the latter he has failed miserably, either way Spurs and Everton probably havent spent 300m between them in the last 3 years

He is terrible, he took a trophy winning side and made it worse.....

But if beating Spurs and Everton is the benchmark for sucess at Liverpool then Rodgers has managed to lower the standards

No, he never lost once to Everton or Spurs, and he got sacked.

In what sense do you see getting sacked as a success?

What he has done is to make beating Spurs and never losing to Everton a marker of sucess.....that lowering of expectations is the reason he was sacked.....along with being terrible

Spurs and Everton are basically the same.

They define their entire existence on whether they can finish above Liverpool, and when they manage it they celebrate like a trophy win.

Hold on, you were celebrating Rodgers ability to beat/not be beaten by Spurs or Everton.

Is that how far the aspirations of Liverpool have falen

You asked "if beating Spurs and Everton is the benchmark for sucess at Liverpool".....which is not something I'd considered, given that he never lost to either of them in 3 years, and he's just been...er....sacked.

Spurtle thinks that finishing below Spurs is the benchmark for failure, and what I've said on this thread is that I think he may be right (in spite of Pochettino's apparent brilliance), because Benitez, Hodgson, Kenny and now Rodgers were all sacked after they finished below Spurs.

I expressed my surprise that this was a cause for celebration amongst Spurs fans, but I'm happy to take his word for it that it is.

I don't think the same benchmark applies to Everton, though. We've apparently only lost 3 derbies in the past 30 years, so that's not considered a benchmark of anything, it's just considered routine.

But there does appear to be some supporting evidence for the view that finishing below Spurs is considered a benchmark of what's sheite at Liverpool , (and likely to get you sacked),.

Finishing above Liverpool doesn't concern me. We have finished above them 5 times out of the last 6 seasons. We care more about looking up than down.

You don't though.

You care more about finishing above us, hence you giving us your attention.

You know you have no chance of finishing above the team who are supposed to be your rivals, ever.

Not celebrating it, it's just funny seeing how Rodgers is so terrible that your far superior managers can't beat him.

Eh? We have no chance of finishing above a team we've already finished above 5 of the last 6 seasons?

And what's wrong with talking about other clubs?

Of course we do mate - its all about you

I only started supporting Everton so I could hate Liverpool

Liverpool start every season with United, Chelsea and Arsenal as their rivals and finish it making comparisons with teams that spend a fraction of the money they do

====================================================
Do we?

I’d say Everton are rivals, because of the local thing, (though it’s true they’ve only won 3 of the last 30+ derbies, but they are still rivals, because they spend a huge proportion of their time whining about us).

I’d say there’s quite a lot of heat generated by the fixtures with United and Arsenal too . In fact the Press still label the Liverpool vs. United game as the biggest in the English calendar, since they’re the two most successful clubs, and it generally gets the biggest tv audience.

I don’t think there’s ever been any particular rivalry with Spurs or Chelsea though. Spurtle thinks that finishing below Spurs is the benchmark of what’s sheite for Liverpool, and I’ve taken his word for it.

Certainly finishing below Spurs makes you statistically likely to be sacked, but even if it is, it’s still more of a benchmark of what’s sheite than a rivalry.

No manager will get any brownie points for avoiding defeat to Everton, that's pretty routine stuff,.

You haven't beaten us for 5 years, and you'e only beaten us 3 times in the past 25 fixtures.

In what sense is it "not routine" for a Liverpool manager to avoid defeat to Everton?

posted on 5/10/15

Have a look at the overall head to head and you'll see that many many Liverpool managers have failed to avoid defeat to Everton, silly boy

Why do LFC fans always get nasty when things don't go their way?
