Lot of their young players never lived up to their potential, for one reason or another.
Ryan Babel, Daniel De Ridder, Hedwig Maduro, Bakkal and many more, all highly rated but achieved nothing
That one of the most successful ones plays for Aston Villa should tell you all you need to know.
And he's 30.
Pretty sure they are still taking penalties against England's 2007 U-21s.
U'21s has been a bit misleading for many years now.
Many good players at 18,19,20 are already into their national squad.
Take Martial for example. Can't see him being excluded from the national squad much in the next couple of years.
...and quite a few of them are over 21 too. Silly name really.
Here's the u21 squad to represent our country, boss
"Are they all under 21?"
No.
"Are they the best players in their age group?"
No.
"Fine. Stick 'em on the plane"
I actually told my brother around 3 years ago that the Dutch were at risk of facing a generational gap. The best players were too old and the promising ones too young. Unfortunately the likes of Van Ginkel and Maher don't look like they will take up the mantle anytime soon and might even never fulfill their potential

If van Ginkel's a dutchman , so am I !
Did he explain that Holland is part of the Netherlands?
Not a single one of them amounted to anything. That's what happened.
