Mr C
The thing is mate it is all about winning, certainly under the Roman regime anyway.
DiMatteo had us playing some outstanding footie at the beginning of his second season but it wasn't enough to save him from the sack.
Whether we like it or not winning comes first and if managers don't do that at Chelsea they get sacked. Style of play is always going to be an afterthought under those type of conditions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
we are not even winning right now which makes the whole situation worse.
If that is true, it raises a very important question. Now this isn't a knock on Jose or the club because I'd have given him the same deal. But if taking massive financial losses such as this are something we wanted to keep in our past - who made the business decision to extend the contract of a manager who (a) had two years left on his contract, and (b) is historically notorious for throwing fits, which affect his teams, when things aren't panning out exactly his way?
For me, until things get REALLY bad, by which I mean beyond this season (which is his get out of jail free far as I'm concerned) we look at the football we're playing and see no hope of a competitive side in our future what so ever, Jose Mourinho is the only man to lead us until he wants to do something else. But that's my blind prospective as a fan looking at it without a care in the world of how my club functions as a business. For someone inside the club to make that executive decision knowing that sort of pay out would be a possibility however unlikely was foolish.
Sources have told ESPN FC that a number of Chelsea players have questioned Mourinho's management and decision-making this season, although John Terry, Cesc Fabregas, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and Diego Costa remain part of a decreasing group still fully behind him.
Mourinho has not been given an ultimatum to avoid defeat to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, however another loss could well force the club's hand to take a heavy financial hit on the most successful manager in their history.
Chelsea have begun to discuss the possibility of sacking manager Jose Mourinho, but are mindful that his departure would cost the club £30 million, sources have told ESPN FC. In the aftermath of the weekend's defeat and sources told ESPN FC that the dismissal of the Portuguese has already been tentatively discussed by the club's hierarchy.
However, sources say Mourinho's representatives would insist on his contract being paid in full -- at £10m per year -- which has caused more hesitation about ending his tenure early, and could yet buy him more time.
Owner Roman Abramovich has already given him a vote of confidence after the 3-1 defeat to Southampton and is keen to stand by the man he first brought to the club in 2004, but that stance is being increasingly tested by bad results, performances and conduct.
Chelsea will be fined £25,000 by the Football Association for receiving more than five bookings in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
The club will also be asked by the Premier League to explain why manager Jose Mourinho did not take part in a post-match news conference.
Can't help but feel it might end up being a mistake long term...
That said I think a change of management would help hugely in the short term.

Normally a club only pays this while he remains unemployed, as son as he takes a new job we stop paying (same with AVB and RDM).
We will only pay this amount if he doesnt get a new job.
If I was him I would put my feet up for a few years, but I imagine he will get a new job sooner rather than later
37m that is awesome. Chelsea squad is already paper thin because to FFP.

So is your education so it seems
I'm sure that the Russian already has his Legal people examining the contract to see if Jose can be dumped for a combination of poor record this season, plus unprofessional behavior which will probably mean lack of availability by way of suspension(s).
Some have said that he no longer wants the job, they might be on to something?
