There seems to be an element of surprise that Rangers went as far as putting a statement on their official website that they had turned down an offer for Jelavic. I think your right and they are trying to put a positive spin on what has been a negative transfer window.

They would be mad to sell Jelavic and I don't think they will but a couple of papers are reporting that Rangers are holding out for £9m. Also when asked if Jelavic is happy at Rangers his agent said 'I believe so but you would need to ask him that question'.

Would you be happy to sell either Davis or Jelavic to fund perhaps 3 players coming in?

It seems that the spin was put on the 'sell to buy' bit when Ally came out and said that he couldn't confirm that the big names wouldn't be sold....

I think the spin is that holding on to Jelavic, Davis etc will be seen as cause for celebration. The shambolic attempts to sign Goodwillie and Miller will fade into the background. As will the '£25m over 5 years with the first year front loaded'.

if we get an offer anywhere near 10m jelavic will be off, whyte had better go with him coz you know we ain't seeing any of that 10m

In an ideal world none of our big players leave. Beattie and Edu go and a few of the kids get loan moves until January.

Realistically I think Rangers could/should sign Rhys Murphy, Jamie Murphy and David Bentley on loan.

Imagine Rangers signing not only one Murphy but two, the boy who sits behind me at Ibrox would have a fit

I'm obviously in the minority but our club needs to start living within it's means.

We as fans need to realise that we don't have Abramovich or Sheik Mansour in the SPL.

That means we can only spend the money we make and given the paltry amounts involved in Scotland, that means we either need to:

1. Sell players on at a profit and reinvest or
2. Qualify for CL and get the TV money

The players failed to get us into the CL this year and failed to get us into the Europa league as well. That means the only money we SHOULD be spending is that which is made through player sales.

That said though, selling Jelavic on the last day of the window would be suicide for us this season unless we already have a replacement lined up.

We need to accept that times have changed and that the SPL isn't somewhere players want to stay, they come here to move onto the EPL. We need to take advantage of that, so given we have no Euro cash this year, if a £9m bid came in for Jelavic I'd expect the club to accept it.

PB

i accept that we need to live within our means but did Whyte do himself any favours by publishing how much he was going to spend?

If he had come and taken away the debt, stabilised the club, signed up greegs, davis etc and consolidated the team with a few loans/ youth players i would have been ok with that. But he was the one shouting his mouth off about the £25m over 5 years

You have no arguments from me the club has been an embarrassment in its PR since Whyte has taken over, but that doesn't change the financial/business side of things.
