Apologies for that link not working. Will amend shortly.
Cannot get the link from Twitter to paste. It is Paul Merson on Soccer Saturday yesterday saying Chelsea would see the game as their easiest in a month. The camera cuts to Phil Thompson closing his eyes in a "God give me strength" moment. If you follow John Bishop he retweeted the original.

that is a ridiculous comment to make though. Yes, results haven't been there but we have looked solid recently and the pressing makes the game hard for any team
he's opened himself up for massive amounts of ridicule on twitter with that.
Thommo looks as though he's fallen asleep
He's got some stiff competition, but over the last decade or so Paul "He's hit the beans on toast, Jeff" Merson, is undoubtedly the thickest pundit on TV.
Not wishing it on the chappie, but is he back on the hooch? Again? Or the gear? Again? If so, he has my sympathies.

Merson...what a complete fk wit! And I thought this before he made that comment, that fact he has said this just reaffirms my original thoughts.
I remember in 2005 or thereabouts he laughed at the suggestion we could beat barca let alone compete with them, such a smug dk.....we beat barca 1-2 at camp nou; again mersons dismissive analysis made to look stupid.
However, we must remember merson IS stupid!
He's not a pundit though is he? Like Chris Kamara, he's purely there to be laughed at. Comic Relief, none of the rest of the pundits listen to a word he says.
Soccer Saturday was a bit "get Mers" yesterday. Phil Thompson made some comment about a player being stupid to which Jeff Stelling said it wasn't a reason to leave him on the bench. Charlie Nicholas and Thommo immediately quipped "Mers would never play".
I do like Merson for pure comedic value. My personal favourite was him commentating on Will-I-Am's debut for Chelsea.
