I don't really understand why Le Fondue and Afobe didn't work out, they should be more or less perfect for each other. Le Fondue like a whippet and Afobe there to smash it home. I don't think there is any point playing Holt as a plan A, he should be the plan B super sub for direct play.
sorry about that, it all gets a bit boring though. Now I can read through what I want to read through.

ALF has been the victim of the poor football we have played (I mostly blame Jackett) and Afobe's lack of effort.
When ALF and Afobe have played together, our defence have resorted to lumping balls at ALF. ALF will run channels, but needs the ball playing into space and thrives on balls into the penalty area. He is going to win very little when the ball is just lumped at him however, when he does, Afobe has made very little effort to get anywhere near him.
It is fine, Afobe coming short to receive the ball, so long as once he has laid it off or the ball has gone past him, he busts a gut to either get into a goal scoring position or create space to receive the ball facing goal. At the moment though, he will just stroll about as if the team owes it to him to do all the work for him.
With how we play at present, Holt will have to be the plan A. We don't have any source of creativity, the player Jackett was relying on for it in Afobe, has shown little ability to create chances for himself or indeed others. We already resort to lumping balls forward at a striker, so why no play someone who can actually win it.
That is unless Jackett can turn this sorry lot around, which is looking unlikely.
The problem as I see it is that Afobe isn't great when operating outside the box, he is a great goal scorer but is deficient in other areas, but asking him to play up front on his own and spearhead the attack doesn't work because he struggles to find space and can't hold the ball up when under pressure, he needs someone else to create the space for him to operate effectively.
Dicko was great at holding the ball up and dragging defenders out of position and of course the opposition back four also had Sako to worry about.
For me it has to be one of Alf-obe as they're best used off the shoulder...They need either a proper #10 or a target man
Afobe has too poor a touch and a lack of strength to fend off defenders and is poor back to goal. Important characteristics for a lone striker. That has been compounded recently by him seeming to play under a sulk over the role he is asked to play.
He is an excellent finisher and we need to play him and get the best out of him. We can criticise the manager and the players around him with some justification, but the player should still be doing a lot more if he is anywhere near justifying a multi million pound valuation
i agree dj, but he was never worth those £10 mill plus valuations in the first place
According to the E&S Norwich will be back in with a £15m bid in January!
ALF and Afobe were building a reasonable partnership so felt it was premature to drop ALF, we had started to score a few more goals.
Don't see it as a surprise that a young player has lost a little belief and confidence and gets frustrated, it is easy to understand why when you have seen some of the rubbish we have dished up this season.

More chance of me flying to the moon than Wolves receiving anywhere near £15m for Afobe.
Afobe is a very talented individual, but not 15 millions worth.
Maybe 10 mill, but clubs won't be put off by this season that much given that we have numerous issues holding him back.
it actually seems then that we have to play Afobe but we can't because we don't have a suitable partner in the ranks (unless he gels with Holt) am I correct?
which leaves us with Afobe sold for a pittance in January and Le fondue and Holt as our strike force
I am hoping we dont get mullered by Mick because I am going to the game!! I hope the team is similar to the Burnley game and play the same way. If we do I fancy we may sneak a result. Difficult to tell with this Jekyll and Hyde of a Wolves team

I disagree that they were building a partnership. Results and goals only picked up because we played a 10 man Fulham team and a very, very poor Huddersfield team.
Following that, we got completely outclassed by Derby, where our system of playing two strikers who can't hold the ball up came undone, and then lost 2-0 to Brentford. It was following this that ALF was dropped.
The system Jackett plays does not work with those two up front and with Afobe's perceived laziness, just leaves ALF fighting a losing battle up there when they play together.
We have learned this season that Afobe is limited as a striker in how he can play, if you want him to be effective. Jackett needs to either work out a way of playing to get the best out of him, or drop him. At the moment, playing him as a lone front man who can not hold up the ball or a number 10 who doesn't create or get in scoring positions, completely hinders the whole team.
I don't think there is an ounce of doubt that if you look at the relative contributions this season of Afobe, Le Fondre and Edwards, then you must conclude that Edwards has been by far the best of the three. If he plays then it's behind a single striker or as part of a front three.
Any striker worth anywhere near £10m would not be so limited that they can only play with certain people in a certain formation. When people were talking about Afobe as a Premier League striker in the summer it was my view that he still had a lot to prove. Since that time he has not proven anything other than he is not as good as people thought he was. Too early to write him off as a star of the future but to me he has even more to prove now than he did 6 mo the ago, both from an ability and attitude perspective
