Very good gesture. Hopefully more super rich people realize owning all the mansions and cars and superjets in the world doesnt really bring happiness.

Money is like manure, leave it in a pile it stinks, spread it around and it makes things grow.

People are a bit less pissy when you spread money within a mile of their house though

Well done that man

Throw in Warren Buffet to that list. He donated just under $3billion a few months ago to charity.

Be good to see what the money actually goes towards, that's a huge amount of money.

There's a lot of charity bosses and executives rubbing their hands right now...to be a bit cynical.

Good to see.

Not sure about the money and happiness thing though.

I am pretty certain I would be a much happier person if I didn't have to work for a living.

I read George Lucas gave away every penny he got from selling the rights of Star Wars to charity.

The guy deserves all the stick he gets for trying to ruining Star Wars but I've never heard anyone give him credit for the charity donation.

True but having enough money not to work is one thing. Having more money than you'll ever spend is another.

There is no benefit to oneself at all having billions and billions in the bank. Most sensible people could live off a few million for the rest of their life. Not even that.

I certainly agree with the second part of your comment to me.

We all have the ability to give away a good percentage of our wealth, it doesn't really mean any more just because someone has a crazy amount to give, the thought is just the same.

This. Charities are a business and have wealthy CEOs sitting at the top.

These major philanthropists don't just throw a few billion into the pockets of each of the largest charities... They set up their own.

This was after the birth of his daughter as far as I know? Really great gesture, he grew Facebook into arguably the biggest thing on the internet.

but now he's a father and I assume married so he's happy, he will still have plenty of money, his kid/s will have the best of everything (although he strikes me as the kind of guy who would instill proper beliefs and work ethic into his kids) he will have a great house etc.

So if he's content what good is the money doing in his account, I'd love to see exactly what the money is used for, that would actually be a campaign that would get me looking at facebook, not a big fan of it myself although I do have a page.

What about his likes and pokes. What a selfish cant

Him, Buffet and Gates have an agreement regarding charities. I think they pledged to donate half their wealth by the time they die, but I might not be remembering properly

Jeez, that amount is about the same as the total annual budget of about 25 sub saharan countries. How is it gonna be spent?
