Overall, City and Chelsea have been better than United in the transfer market over the last decade.
.............................
??
They've spent a lot more than us in the last decade (well City less sure about Chelsea) not sure its really surprising they have a better squad.
The last 2 years we've spent more than them....
Well I think last summer was the first one we'd outspent them in for a fair few years.
After only outspending them one year out of the last few is it any surprise they have more talented players than us?
Yeah we've started spending a bit more recently but considering we are mainly buying younger players that is going to take a while to bear fruit.
Sakho and Mangala are like the second and third coming of Titus Bramble. Such awkward and clumsy defenders
He said United are no bigger or better than Liverpool last week. He's clearly off his tiiiiiits.
We bore when we want & SAF
...........
You missed my point. What I was trying(and failing) to say is that City and Chelsea manages to acquire some ready made made, world class players when they splashed cash on a major squad overhaul.
We spend more than them ever did over similar duration(18 months) but all we got to show are some wildly overpayed youngsters. youngsters who's careers can still go either way.

Not exactly by much...
And we did that once, only just now, whereas they did it multiple times with time elapsed since to make those players improve.
Shaw, Martial and Memphis could well go on to become top players and we signed all those 3 in the last 18 months, if that spending over the last 18 months had happened a few years ago (like some of City's and Chelsea's) we would have 3 top players in Shaw, Martial and Memphis right now.
They just spent more and over a longer timeframe.
City spent more than we did (though over a few years) and still finished 5th behind Tottenham in the chase for CL in the years before and after their takeover.
great article.
Glad we didnt get Otamendi!
Not exactly a fair comparison though, we had to replace the whole squad, let alone team. Nobody does that and gets straight into the cl.
Even Thiago Silva would look average playing under Pellegrini, the guy has no clue how to coach defending infact even Kompany looks a shadow of the player he was under Mancini.
He's a really good player, put him under a manager who takes defending seriously then judge him.

Yeah I'd agree with that actually, not a fair comparison.... more a throw away comment at the end....
Although the decade timeframe Cleverson stated does cover it which is why I mentioned it.

That is part of the problem. I have high hopes for all our youngsters but they are few seasons away from realizing their potential. Their careers could still go either way.
The difference with City or Chelsea is that They got some top class players who could come in and make an immediate impact. which one of our recent signings managed to do the same?
Kdb looks crap against big teams. Hasn't turned up against a good team all season.
Cleverson well these top players weren't available in the one transfer window we have had since LVG got us back into the CL.
That one transfer window where City actually outspent us.
We only really outspent our big rivals last summer, when we didn't have CL so big names at their peak weren't going to join us.
We spent less than City this summer and had only finished 4th the season prior, so again bringing in a big name was tricky but was our spending worse than City this summer?
It isn't a case of City or Chelsea have spent better than us in the last decade, just their heavier spending occurred when players like Silva or Hazard were available for purchase.
It's actually ridiculous that Mangala and Otamendi can't organise a defence without Kompany to hold their hand, is that what you get for a combined £70 million? centre backs who don't know how to defend?
What was the stat Tyler came out with tonight? something like 8 games with Kompany City have conceded 1 goal, 8 games without they'd conceded 16, now 18 in 9 after tonight's game.
I thought Mangala in particular was being hyped up far to much a couple of years ago and i'm still not convinced about Sterling.
I heard he did okay against Juve at the Etihad which is the type of games he needs to be impacting if he's serious about being a top, top player, not just Bournemouth and Norwich, I think KDB has done pretty well since being at City.
They've also lost 5 games now, teams lose 6 or less to win the league, unless they defy the history books or go on an incredible run between now and May they might see the title (that should win at a canter) slip away.

I get the pass on the second goal but it's the midfield, not the defence. Specifically, Toure.

Bit like when Fellaini strolls forward for us when he plays CM. No discipline.
SAF
City bought Tevez and Yaya when they werent in CL. They bought Aguero and Silva soon after. They managed to buy Aguero, Silva, Yaya and Kompany within two summers for less money than we spend over last two summers. Fact is, Both city and Chelsea managed to get top players in that two summers they decided splashed cash on a major squad overhaul, we didnt.
Its not a matter top players not being available either. Sanchez, KDB, Mahrez all changed clubs in that time. United choose not to sign them.
