Not a lot

Gabby-----N'Zogbia------Albrighton

might be a bit more exciting. What we may be looking at though is:-

Hutton-Collins-Dunne-Warnock
---------Jenas-Petrov--------------
Gabby-----Heskey-------N'Zogbia

I hope not, but ....

By the way, I think Jenas is a good player. But as far as I remember he's been a bit injury prone.

I'm actually quite relieved we've got some players in because I thought we were shooting ourselves in the foot loaning out Makoun without a replacement in before but that's the stupid Aston Villa way so...

Jenas was a very good player maybe 5 years ago but now I'm not even sure he makes the Spurs bench. But when you see the quality in their midfield you can kind of understand it. He's a decent player, he's got 21 England caps and I think he is above average and will do a job for us. It's better than getting no one, but I don't understand why we had to let Makoun go as well. The amount of players we've sold or released and the money we've made from transfers should have meant we could have kept Makoun and got Jenas, which would have given us Makoun, Petrov, Ireland, Jenas, Delph and Bannan as our cenral midfield options, which is ok. As it happens, we've now lost a player who I felt could have been quality for us and gained a player who will be solid but unspectacular. Hutton is another ok signing but nothing to get excited about.

I still think Lerner should go. We're signing players on the cheap and the quality has dropped at Villa since last season. It's not good enough and we will still do well to finish top half even with Jenas and Hutton added. Let's hope by next summer we have a new owner with money to spend so we can excited again.

Also my team with our current squad would be:

Given
Hutton Collins Dunne Warnock
Jenas Delph
Albrighton Ireland N'Zogbia
Bent

Subs: Guzan, Herd, Clark, Petrov, Bannan, Agbonlahor, Heskey.

Maybe Petrov in for Ireland and Gabby in for Albrighton.

One thing is certain, Albrighton MUST start. Blind freddy can see that but stil he persists with Heskey! Fullbacks must be shaking in their boots when they read that Heskey will be rampaging down their line.

Don't think Ireland will get a look in. Particularly now that Jenas has arrived. I suspect that McLeish has concluded Ireland just doesn't have it, and if so he's probably right.

I agree that Albrighton should be given an extended run. He's got the potential, and that's the way to bring it out.

I may have missed something but apparently Villa have also signed Republic of Ireland Under-21 international defender Enda Stevens from Shamrock Rovers for an undisclosed fee - but he won't actually join us until January 2012. Where would Stevens fit in?
