Took balls to turn it down. I applaud it.
The 40 mil would be useless as we could not sign a player(s) of similar quality - as we dont pay the wages.
Look at the striker probs we have had since losing Berba.
Whats your source for the £40m ever being offered?
Fair point but will he sulk and we get shot of him in Jan? I dont know but still would of liked to see more players in
40 million for Modric is totally baffling. Why is this guy rated so highly? It's bonkers, madness. He's worth 25 tops and it's not like he's up there with the Sneijders or Ozils is it. 40 million would've bought 2 class players and got rid of a guy that can't be bothered to put the shirts on anymore. He wants to go and are you guys happy by the way he's treating the club? The guys just another merc........along with the spineless Downing.
40 mil goes along way to paying wages for a couple of good player. should have taken it, wont get it in January
Should have taken it anyway regardless that it's too late now to buy big names. I know what Modric is going through as anyone on this board knows if he or she wants to get away from a company to find another job.
The expression "Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face" springs to mind; It would appear that Levy has rejected this offer solely to demonstrate how tough he is.
Given that a) Luka Modric is not worth £40m, good as he is, and b) Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements and £40m would have been a Godsend, I imagine that 'Arry is none too happy with Mr Daniel "Rambo" Levy.
Desperate for strikers, Levy's grandstanding cost them the chance to bring any in in the last window, and now it looks as though he has done the same this time around.
Wenger is - rightly - criticised for running his operation like an accountant rather than a football manager, but it looks to me as though Levy is having a similarly detrimental affect on Spurs with his own reluctance to spend a penny more than he has to ore selling for not a penny less than he wants.
Taken 40 million and therefore opening the door for bale, vdv and whoever else to kick up a stink when they wanna leave - it's more than just money sometimes!
"...opening the door for bale, vdv and whoever else to kick up a stink when they wanna leave"
If you need to take such measures to ensure your players stay, that suggests you have deeper problems.
Taken 40 mil and done what with it?
We could buy 4 x 10 mil players - but they dont improve us.
25 mil plus players earn 120K a week top and we dont pay it. Lern the lesson of Berba. We have to keep our best players and try and sneek 4th. Last season was a real f * * k up not getting 4th from the position we were in.
This season could be our last chance for a while... Arsenal weakened and Liverpool looking good but a new side.
We have a V good first 11 - need to be lucky with injuries and then who knows.
Adam - the only problem is the stadium, smaller revenues mean smaller wages which means we can't compete with the chelskis, citehs for top players which means its harder to finish top 4 - swings and roundabouts!
How long before badge kissing?
and i just heard that alex was included in that deal !!!
engage brain people. I know its late.
Sell our best player and leave 24hrs to find a replacement. Everyone would hold us to ransom. If CFC had come in 2 or 3 wks ago with £40m then maybe there is room to maneuver but not at the 11th hour....REMEMBER BERBATOV and the last minute Frazer-Campbell nightmare!
secondly, sure Modric is not worth £40m BUT as an unwilling seller Spurs choose the price which would = his value plus our compensation for having to depart with him. Just like if you owned a pet rat that cost you £5, and i offered you £7 you'd say "no, I love the little rat-faced hairy thing, he's priceless to me" and that is how it is with Modric.
None of that too difficult to understand is it?
