Really don't see the issue here. Its a fooking 6 month loan you dummys
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because Utd are in disarray and Chelsea closer to the bottom of the league than the top.
There is a top 4 place up for grabs and should we actually sort our sheet out we'd have a shot at it. Not a great shot maybe but a shot nevertheless.
Caulker does not help.
Or should I say Caulker apparently doesn't help because obviously I'm a dummy compared to your enormous intellect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes because having another player in an area where we have no fully fit out and out players is going to hinder our chances of a top four finish
People don't want to sell in January, who is available that we could get who would significantly improve us to a top 4 finish?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have players (Kolo, Sakho); we have backup players (Ilori, Enrique), we have makeshift players and youth players.
What we're talking about is quality of player, let's not pretend we have no CBs.
In terms of quality, I don't rate Caulker. I have no idea who is and isn't available because I don't work in football. I do however work with risk and probability every day and it seems pretty unlikely to me that we weren't able to source someone better than the 4th choice CB for a mid-table team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the risk and probability of yours brains seeping out of your ears?
Some players don't work at certain clubs but when was the last time a £15m plus signing worked for us?
No risk signing, player with a point to prove and no price tag hanging over his head so very little pressure who clearly has talent as demonstrated when he was at Spurs as a lot of their fans seemed curious as to why he was initially sold.
Seems like a no lose singing for me.

Ok, if it were a choice of Enrique and Caulker I would go for Caulker obviously. To me this isn't about getting someone or not getting someone, it's about getting someone that can be relied on if they're called upon. Or, as I said earlier, player quality.
Does it seem likely to you that we weren't able to get anyone better than Soton's 4th choice CB this month? It's possible he was the best available but it doesn't seem likely. That's my issue.
Caulker has played something like 8 games this season btw so I wouldn't bank on him being totally match fit either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest with you I think it is about getting someone. I don't think this transfer would have happened had Lovren and Toure got injured, it was simply a case of getting someone in before the Arsenal game and with any other player it would have taken longer. I can't say for sure but that's my guess. There's nothing to say we won't bring in another CB later in the transfer window which is why I don't understand why people are getting their knickers in a twist.
You realise any team would be able to force more money out of us to speed the negotiation process along because they know we're desperate. It's an easy transfer, so I understand why it was made.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe it is just for Arsenal but that would be surprisingly short-term thinking, especially with Kolo and Sakho likely to start.
Hopefully he's for the bench only but it makes me uncomfortable that we've signed a player that, from what I've seen, can't be relied upon. When we signed Bogdan I thought - substitute so no harm done. I guess you could say the same here. Personally I hope he gets less game time than Boggie

You've inadvertently got your first thing right today - of course it's short term thinking, that's what a loan is
