That's a lot of effort you've put in there on our behalf Ramboue.
Thanks
I have often thought Long would work well in our style.
He's not a goalscorer but his work rate would endear him to the fans quickly and he would get others pressing.
He wouldn't be top of my list of players to sign tomorrow but I would rather sign him than another forward like Balotelli or Benteke who are completely unsuited to how we want to play.
If fans want a striker this month then they need to be realistic on who it's achievable to sign.
Buying from other premier league clubs rarely works for us, so I don't see why we should continue down that unfurfilling path.
Apart from the signings of Clyne, Henderson and Sturridge, they're literally no other positive signings made from other Premier League clubs. The list of money wasted is horrendous: Carroll (35m), Downing (20m), Adam (9m), Mignolet (9m), Allen (15m), Lallana (25m), Lovren (20m), Benteke (35m)
That's 170m, with what to show?!
Allen..lallana..Lovren are proving to be valuable players this seasoning. No doubt they have improved and they have played a key role for us.

Allen and Lallana are good squad players for sure, however 25m for Lallana still seems a major waste of money. Lovren does seem to be doing much better this year without the pressure, but still can't see him as a first team regular in the future years.
60m for those three has been a waste of money in my eyes!
We already have a similar type of player in ings, but ings is better.
No idea why we'd then look to long.
I would like to see another striker with a real physical presence brought in to compliment Benteke.
When Caulker came on against Arsenal and we started to play direct we looked a far more composed team. A defender under pressure always has an out and our tricky players like Lallana and Firmino thrive on the second ball. I've for example looks better to me when he goes direct and doesn't overthink the passing side of the game. He's got pace to burn, beat your man with pace and cross it early! When then have some variation in attack.
So to me good a player as Long is he's not the type of player we need IMO.
Now I wonder if we could persuade Everton to part with Lukaku?

I very much doubt we're really looking at Long. This is the quote of the BBC's gossip page. Made up of 'could and may'. Pretty much means they've made it up.....
Having signed several Southampton players in the last few years, Liverpool could return to to sign another player from Saints as the Reds may make an £8m move for striker Shane Long. (Sun)

Ings is better in my opinion as Long is incredibly profligate.
Still think Benteke is getting too much stick. Our top scorer came on and set up the goal to get more points. It's starting to remind me of Giroud.
I note with great interest the comments on Long. On the limited times I've seen him play, he reminds me of one other player in particular, and that is Danny Ings. He's not to Ings' level, but I think he can get there.
For £8M, I certainly wouldn't write him off, especially after his performance against the gooners. And again, he looke like a Jurgen type of player.

ARE, with Ings out of the picture for the entire season, with Divock out for another month with his surgery, Long doesnt look like a poor option. £8M?
We've wasted far more on less capable players.

No doubt until he puts in a few sub standard performances, maybe misses a few sitters, eh Jimmy? Then I'm sure you'll be on here or in the kop egging on everyone to direct some much deserved vitriol in his direction.....
Please don't let this be true
Rather take a punt on a youngster than Long. Would be a complete waste of 8m and wages
Ings has become near worldclass since his injury somehow
I think Long is another Robbie Keane (I hope I got the spelling right) and you know what happened with him.
Dearest T 1, I certainly didn't "egg on" anyone on the Kop, they didn't need any encouragement.
May I refer you to my post on "Mignolet" posted a few moments ago.
Best wishes.

Danny Ings, age 23.
Shane Long, age 28.
I think we just need to get people in to cover injuries short term, I get that, but don't see him as the answer.
