1) Money
2) CL
3) How they are performing now
4) History
5) Location
Chris
Money talks, but if I was offered the same job on the same pay in either Hull or Trinidad, I know where I'd choose to go. Of course location matters.
CL is just money too, though.
Most players won't really be that fussed about actually playing in the CL unless they are playing for a team that might win it. It's the extra money they will get for going to a CL club they really care about.
Hope history is some kind of sick joke.

Extreme example, that.
if a player is being offered exactly the same terms for a London club vs a North East then yes he'd probably choose London. Aside from a close to identical offer he'll go where the money is best, anything else players say is just posturing.
1) CL
2) Money (unless its crazy money for the player, then its no.1)
3) Manager
4) Recent performance of the team
5) Location
6) History
I think location must play a big part in the footballers ultimate decision.
Like say Sanchez to Arsenal, right Arsenal are a better team than Liverpool so totally see why he goes there, Liverpool offered more wages but he picks the team he's got a better chance of competing with.
but also think that in a city like London as opposed to Liverpool you will have a much larger Chilean community, far more places to eat and socialize with a community you are familiar with, that must be important to many foreign players, especially if they have kids and want them to grow up with kids from their home country.
I don't think it's the ultimate deciding factor but must play a significant role in the decision.
Probably more reason to spend money on your academy and not players.
England (+ Wales) is so small anyone playing premier league football can afford a trip to London or somewhere sunny so it's unlikely to be a deal-breaker. I would have thought it more likely these places put them off rather than London being more of a draw.
Think its important to note that there is variables involved in all of this.
Compare a 30k a week offer to a 50k (not too unlikely in the game)
Playing for under Jose/Fergie/Pep vs playing under Steve Kean etc
Depends on just how far the poles are apart, which makes the North/South thing hard to say
Hope history is some kind of sick joke.

How is that a joke?
Look at Klopp for example.
West Ham wanted him and he declined.
Liverpool want him and he joined.
He turned down London

98% of players will go for Steve Kean. It's all about money.
Money clearly matters most to 90% of players but location does come into to it for the very best (IMO).
The good thing about Madrid and Barcelona is they pay huge money and are not based in a dump like London or Manchester, hard to beat that.

You filthy WUM
As I said in the article text, Liverpool are possibly one of only three exceptions to the London rule, but suffer as all English clubs do under the nicer weather clause.
And of course Klopp is a manager not a player. Managers tend to more intelligent and not purely base decisions on being able to buy nice shiny things and how many clothes the local women wear to walk about in

I think money is a motivator up to a point. I don't think it's as important for the really top earners. I think players want to play, and play in a team that is performing well. So Cl football and a manager with a good reputation matter a lot.

I think you're a bit of a cheeky twunt tbh, who in their right mind would rather live in Tottenham or Finsbury Park when they could live in the beautiful Cheshire countryside?
1) CL
2) Money
3) Location
4) Manager/players
5) Prestige (not just history)
However I do believe you need an element of most of them to draw a player. It's not just every player will go for 1 then if they can't get that 2 etc. Look at a team like Genk for example. They have CL but no way would a player choose them over Spurs

Who would rather live in Cheatham Hill when they could live in beautiful Buckinghamshire?

I think footballers like everyone else view their careers differently, some people are willing to move anywhere to advance their career, Newcastle, Birmingham, Brighton, it doesn't matter.
Others WANT to live in a certain area even if it means stagnating in their chosen careers, wanting the "London life" may be ideal for someone in their twenties but as they mature they may take things more seriously and may consider moving.
Buckinghamshire ain't anything special.

Think you're right, if either Spurs or West Ham were on the market, arguably size wise on both sides of Everton they would be snapped up.
