Nice... Be interesting to see what Leicester do in the transfer market in the summer. They're not a team that has hung on for dear life in the premier league They've challenged for the league and could win it so why would players want to leave. They'd want to stay and build on this. Then of course you will want to recruit new players carefully so you don't upset the team dynamic which is possibly your biggest challenge.

VARDY SIGNS NEW DEAL

It just keeps on getting better for Leicester!

After moving five points clear at the top of the Premier League table by beating title rivals Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, star striker Jamie Vardy has now pledged his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract.

Vardy has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal with the current league leaders.

"Leicester City have shown nothing but total faith in me since the day I arrived here three and a half years ago and it's impossible to measure how much that belief has helped me to improve," Vardy said.

"I’ll forever be grateful for the investment the club has made in me and I’ll spend every day working to repay it."

Agreed mr Chelsea. I guess if we compare it to Brian Cloughs Forest side in the late 70s, then the warning signs are there. Once they tasted major success they starting changing their recruitment policy, bringing in big name players and spending money.

When they happened they lost what had made them great and they never managed to maintain the early success, despite having Clough.

Should the unthinkable happen, we need to ensure we keep the spirit of the club in tact and not go out spending stupid money on players who won't work as hard as the rest do

That's exactly it. You don't want to go crazy but at the same time you don't want to leave your team standing still. It's a fine balancing act.

Holding onto Ranieri is now my major concern, Football is fickle, at the start of the season he was seen as a bit of joke, now he'll be one of the hottest Managers around.

If I'm honest I thought Pearson was better looking

I hope you win the league. You have some hardworking players in Vardy, Kante, Drinkwater, the japanse lad, Fuchs Huth and some spark in Marez.

I think Ranieri will see out his career here. He's tried everything else, and when the likes of Chelsea get mentioned I can see him sticking two fingers up to be honest

But he's a gentleman and will politely say. Thank you, but no thank you

Good luck to you guys. Its all about keeping the team together. My own team (Dundee United) won the Scottish league in 82/3 season. It was a great achievement at the time. Rangers, Celtic and Hearts all had good teams at the time and we also had Fergies Aberdeen team to deal with too. If United or Scotland aren't playing. I'll always back the underdog. Hope you giving Arsenal a going over next week too, good luck

Ranieri won't leave. He loves it here more than anyone.

Nice words from Vardy. Don't like the size of salary but that's football these days.

There's something special at our club currently, I'm glad he wants to be part of it.

I hope so Mersey because he'll now be the focal point for the leaches to try and poach.

Would be nice if we could do the same with Mahrez, but I think he is off in the close season - Just got a hunch he'll go to Arsenal with the French link

Good news. However as we've seen in the past, signing a new long term deal can be a way of hiking the price up. I'm hopeful we can retain his services though as he is reportedly worth £18M. If sold 25% would apparently got to Fleetwood (I hear siren calls of 'sell, sell' from the northwest ).

That would mean £13.5M net available to spend on a replacement. Could we get another top quality striker for that?

So no desire for the club to sell, only a move then if Vardy himself wants it and no sign of that at present.

Slight nervousness about the £80k/week as we would potentially be in trouble if relegated next season with high wage bills and long term contracts (that's a worst case scenario with us say in the Europa League next year causing us to struggle in the Premier League).

Ranieri? Hopefully he's seeing us as a final project before retirement. What a good one to have on his CV if he achieves the impossible and wins the top league - something he hasn't done in his career before despite previous success with quality teams. He'd also have the prospect of managing us in Europe next year so I'm hopeful he'll stay.

Still, nice to be able to have these sort of worries in February rather than facing another Championship campaign like we were a year ago!

does anyone think the reason we didn't sign an expensive player in the window is because we spent our wage budget on Vardy's rise?

That's practically a signing in itself
