Even if we no realistic chance of beating Barca over 2 legs, I'd imagine Wenger would never even contemplate playing the kids in such a match, it would be an insult to the fans.
It's such a poor attitude to suggest playing some reserves or kids against Barca.
Can you imagine Wenger saying to Sanchez, Cech & Ozil - "sorry lads, I know when I signed you I said I wanted to win big trophies but we are giving up before the first leg against Barca!"
Or he could say, this season his main focus is to win the league and build foundation to succeed in CL the next season.
Nah, I'm not buying that and they certainly wouldn't.
We fans on the these forums are obviously very analytical but the top players will want to play against the top teams. There would be a revolt if Wenger effectively threw the tie away by resting the key players, and the media would have a field day.
Not to mention that just isn't what football is about. Arsenal is a massive club and I want to see us try to go toe to toe with the best teams in Europe.

Pleguezuelo and Hayden vs MSN
From the poster who declared a draw would be far worse than defeat against Leicester
Our fixture list isn't that bad really, the only low point is flying back from Barca on a Wednesday night, potentially after taking a hammering, and having to get ready for a lunchtime kickoff in Liverpool on the Saturday.
Bit of a joke how we have a lunch time kick-off after an away CL match on a Wednesday.
"Bit of a joke how we have a lunch time kick-off after an away CL match on a Wednesday."
Same for all English CL clubs.
Can't really have it both ways, earn millions in extra revenue via the CL then moan when we are forced to play more than the other clubs in the league.
People go on about how Spain help their clubs compete in the CL but I don't mind it how it is. Not everything should be geared about giving the big clubs the easiest ride
It isn't about giving clubs an easy ride - just a fair chance.
5 TV slots, why does it make any sense to chose the one that gives one team the biggest disadvantage?
Ultimately it's a negative of competing in the CL/EL, that you sometimes get these tricky set of games comes up, but no one forces us to play in Europe.
I think it nicely helps balance out the league a bit and forces the top clubs to rotate. Like I say, too often the big clubs that are competing in Europe think that they should get every advantage given to them.
All that attitude does is make competing at the top more and more difficult for smaller sides.
The likes of Newcastle and Sunderland need that extra rest with their mammoth schedules.

They aren't asking for extra rest. We are.
It is not an advantage over our opponents to play a day later. They get the extra preparation time.
It is just less of a disadvantage for us. Why would a fair competition look to disadvantage a competitor when the options are open for a fairer schedule?
I don't expect people to make it easier for the big clubs, just to apply a bit of logic when selecting televised games. Even if we were playing at home I'd be ok with it but away in Liverpool of all places?
Why would the TV companies care if the rest periods are equal or not? They set them according to what they think will get the best viewing figures.
You're asking for the league to overrule them and say they need to give the teams the same rest days. What we are saying is we want the big TV money and also the CL participation money but we don't want to deal with less rest. Can't have it both ways

Keep hanging unto that suits you perfectly
I stand firm CL is a massive distraction cost could cost us massively such as injuries, demoralisation, loss of momentum and physical and mental exertion and what not.
The title race is so tight and fixtures making it even more difficult we cannot afford to risk it. A bird in a hand is worth more than 2 in the bush, so I say risk very little in this lost cause.
Apply all our strength in the cause (Prem) which is very feasible.
CL is no World Cup, we will have stronger squad with a chance against teams like Barca.
